I used a wide angle lens (maybe Canon 17mm or 19mm or Spiratone 20mm) with Efke 100. The film was developed and scanned by Dawyne's Photo. Here are the 33 images that I got from this roll of film.

I usually look at Pensacola Beach through color film, and I found it different to see B&W images from the same beach. EFKE film seems to be sensitive to how it gets developed and scanned. The resulting grain pattern will differ if a different developer had been used. I am sure of it.

Very cool.

What's your take on the Dwayne's scans? I've been thinking about sending some stuff to them.

Hi Jason,
I have forwarded to that lab the RFF thread on Dwayne's Photo. I asked them to have their QC personnel take a look at some of the complaints. There are overlapping scans; over sharpening; scratched negatives ... etc. These issues occur one in a while, and then Dwayne's Photo is quite good about taking the rolls back to do new scans.

I would give them a shot to see how you like their work or not.

Hi Raid,

Wow, a beach, two photogenic kids, a wide angle lens, and some EFKE - and some great results. I especially like that final large-sized one.

I remember some colour fish-eye shots from a beach that you posted a while ago, and they were great too - you really are good at this kind of stuff.

Cheers,

Why ? The CV 12 15 & 24 are cheap, later ones are RF coupled, and they are inheritntly not as good an optical design as a RF lens.

I used to own all the Pentax wides and have 18 to 35 mm Nikkors now. None hold a candle to a modern RF lens.

Raid, nice work with that combo. I have to say I like what Efke did with those images. Do you know what developer Dwayne's used? It's probably unlikely to be Rodinal, which I understand is good for Efke.

I've used Dwayne's for my E6/K64 work in the past, and I've always liked the results. No scans yet, though.

Cheers,

Hi Alan,

Thanks. I keep on looking for new perspectives even when the environment stays the same [the beach].

Ronald,

It is not a matter of choosing between old and new lenses but rather view it as alternative approaches with different looking results. I try to use SLR lenses that are identical in design to RF lenses whenever possible.

Hi Joe,
This is the second commercial lab making results with EFKE appear as grainy. I also like it for specific applications. You need to contact Dwayne's Photo regarding the type of developer used by them with EFKE.

Here are a few larger sized scans:

The flag was red at the beach that day, warning potential swimmers not to go into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
