$1239 for a Leica M3...

According to my Hove Leica collector's guide, the last M3 was number 1158995. But this one is number 1164865. And yet it is an M3, with that serial number, and certainly looks real. And all those letters seem convincing. And the sale is by Setadel, and they are reputable. So I guess the Hove book must be wrong.

You know, Jim Lager might know if this was really the last one, if anybody knows.

It's a shame that camera has never been used - obviously that's only my opinion.

As for boxes, I eventually tossed the box my first camera came in (SP500), kept the very small box and papers for my second camera (XA2), tossed the box my AE-1 Program came in, and then,...

... after buying a new F3/T and 50/1.4 Nikkor, plating around with the camera that evening, then right after I tore up the boxes said to myself "those were nice boxes; I should've kept them."

So here I am 32 years later with a walk-in closet full of Leica boxes, Hasselblad boxes, Nikon boxes, etc. Really, I'm never going to ever do anything with these. I'm tempted to sell them, but it's still hard to believe they're worth the trouble of selling. Besides, the stickers on the boxes create a direct mystical connection between them and the actual camera I have. Bad juju to separate that.
