50mm Summicron v3

Forgot to add: I scanned/digitized these negs no differently than I do with convential bw film and developers. I used an Epson V600, using the Epson software to adjust the histogram to get the broadest range of tones I can out of the negative. I then make minor, further adjustments and clean up in LR.

I like the pictures too; Steve, I've never heard from this film and this developer. Great sharpness and tonality.

Erik.

Thanks, Erik. I became aware of this developer about a year ago, and my sense is that it’s pretty new (I’m sure I’ll be corrected if it’s been out for awhile). The chemistry eliminates the need for fixing as a separate step in the development process. You develop for a period of time depending on whether the developer is fresh or has been reused, at prescribed temps that are a little warmer than 20C, and then rinse/wash when the development time is up. I was skeptical at first about eliminating the use of a fixer as a separate step, but the results look pretty good to my eyes. D96 Monobath won’t replace Perceptol, HC 110, or Diafine (the other developers I regularly use), but it’s a nice alternative and appears to have been designed with Double X in mind…

Steve, I just shot my first roll of Double X and am also about to venture from my usual Rodinal to HC-110. Have you tried using that one with Double X, and if you'd be willing to share dilution and times, I'm all ears 🙂

I have not yet used HC 110 (or LegacyPro 110) with Double X. Some of my early photos with Double X were developed in Diafine, but mostly I’ve used D96 Monobath. There seems to be a sweet spot with D96 Monobath at around 7:30 mins. at 22C, using Double X, where you get nice tones and grain. The photos below are some recent examples… not taken with a Summicron v. III, so we’re venturing beyond the theme of the thread, but since you and a number of others have expressed interest…

Nikon F2, Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2.0 SLIIs, Cinestill Double X, D96 Monobath, 7:30 mins. @ 22C:

The tonality you are getting is fabulous! Particularly for me in those first three w Nikon F2 and Ultron (not that it's the camera or lens 🙂 Thank you for sharing. I will start with HC 110 because I have it here and go from there 🙂

Cheers,
David

DwF, I shot through a bulk roll of Eastman Double-X a few years ago and developed most of it with LegacyPro L110. No on-topic photos to share with the 50mm Summicron v3, but for developing dilutions and times at 68 degrees F, I settled on 1:31 for 5.5 minutes for ISO 200 and 1:31 for 6 minutes for E.I. 400. YMMV in your own workflow, but hope that helps with some ballpark starting points. I have an album of sample images with Eastman Double-X on my Flickr with notes on my dilutions/times.

Thank you for that! 🙂
