It is the lens I use the most for film photography.
It's the blend of look in b&w and handling that does it for me.

I like the v3, which I chose for the long throw, low price, and lack of tab. I also think some of the Summicron's signature lives in the flare, especially when shooting contre jour, so I don't mind that at all. Plus, mine came with the cool reversable hood and weird cap with the notches in it.

I would change my Elmar-M to V3 in no time. DR, Rigid are going to look ugly on my M4-2. And I give no crap for how classic Leica lenses act on digital.

I've had and used them all but by far prefer the user experience of the V3. I dislike focus tabs or infinity locks. The DR is a heavy lens with all that brass!
I liked the photos from all the Summicrons but prefer using the V3 above them all.

The ergonomics are indeed very nice. Mine is from 1969. The focusing is smooth but I was thinking it probably would benefit from a re-lube after so many years. I took it to a local tech and he advised me to leave well enough alone as the focusing is normal for a lens this age. So I am going to continue to enjoy using it as my only 50 lens. Doesn't really matter to me if there are "better" lenses or not. I like it and the images it produces so that is good enough for me.

I agree with the ergonomics points. I like in particular that the focus tab is very wide and runs just smoothly enough. It's a brilliant small little lens. And prices seem to be on the rise so it seems other people have discovered this too. Anyway, time for more photos 🙂

I have obtained a 50mm Summicron Version 3. The three grub screws around the barrel beneath the aperture ring are not flush with the barrel, suggesting that someone has tried a "knife-and-fork" job for some reason - or is this normal? Or maybe I should have it serviced? Or maybe I should just get on with taking photographs with it!

I've just acquired this fine lens and I must say I'm very pleased with it's performance, at least judging by these first couple of shots. Both are at f2.
I've had the V5 before and found it a little too big, I've also had the rigid and loved the images but didn't like the ergonomics. This seems like the best of both worlds to me and it sits very nicely on the camera.

Hello all.
Quick question about the long throw thing.
I am getting ready to buy one, and since some of the V3's were made in Germany and some in Canada, I was wondering if there is any difference in the throw. The lens was around for 10 years and there may have been some changes during its time.
Just to be clear, I am looking for a long throw.
