50mm Summicron v3

WRT wintoid's comment about v3's flare control, I should mention the that flare control of v3 leaves something to be desired based on my own experience. It is quite evident with Iam's only color shot of the loading dock(?) with the heavy flare on the right side of the frame made more obvious by the dark brick and black door. This is not atypical of this version and to some it helps gives that sought after "glow" or vintage look people like of older Leitz lenses. I have read and believe it's quite true, that each succeeding version of the 50 'cron is an improvement of the previous one in terms of contrast and flare resistance. Therefore, v3 is better in this respect than v1 or v2. My experience with v4/5 showed better flare control and microcontrast than v3 but it's far from perfect. Both ZM 50's and quite probably the Apo 'cron (v6?) will best v4/5 in flare control. I have also read that flare from v3 can be somewhat reduced with better edge blackening of some the internal element and lens baffling by a competent Leica service person like DAG but his wait time usually is quite long.

Regarding the Camera 35 test report, it's from Aug/Sept 1969. Attached is a copy of the review. Note the price of the Summicron compared to the SLR lenses, very interesting read.

I see in background bagel shapes. I've only seen it in my Collapsible Summicron. Do other 50mm do that?
Just curious. OH, last batch of photos are stunning.

Oh Hi 'leicapixie'
Not sure really, I mean wide open fairly fast lenses generally have
A varying touch of that rounded / sometime bagel shaped bokeh
I notice the 50 version 3 has a few 'looks' wide open depending on the Light
Cheers & Thanks !
