A Trivial Pursuit...

This is a trivial question but it's making me crazy(er) so I thought I'd ask. Yesterday I picked up a nice one owner M3. Had a 50mm f3.5 Elmar M on it. But I digress. It also had this thing sticking up from the shutter button. I know it isn't a SOREI and Lager is no help.
Any ideas?

Marginally off-topic, but why do Leica insist on really odd names for things, which gives you no idea what they're for?

What is the intention of this thread? I guess, it is multiple.

One is to inform us about the purchase.

Another intention is obviously to show this odd thing. I admit, I never seen something this odd from Leica. Must be some unknown to me logic around this bulkie.

But is it also about how to get rid of it?

I'm not sure, but if it is...
I didn't started with the manual search. Just looked at ebay listings. Some are showing it as screw on, just like more elegant and simple soft release.
So if where is desire to get rid off it, the action seems to be simple.

As for price, $69 as in one of the listings. This is very moderate for original MiG Leica gizmo.
