BEOON the Leitz Copy Stand

Interesting conversation for sure. I'd be curious to see the differences between doing this with a $200 Fotocar vs a $3000 Lux.

I still need a BEOON so it'll have to wait 🙂

I also read somewhere about doing this HDR style with exposure bracketing and Nik software. Has anyone tried that?

I have a PrimeFilm XA, which I do like... Although i've been too lazy to buy the better Silverfast with Multi Exposure.

I received my BEOON on Friday and spent the weekend fiddling around with it and digitizing some of the negatives from my M4 and M6.

It's certainly faster than the V600 I was using prior. Quality is good - better details and sharpness than the flatbed as one might expect. Nice and sharp.

I'm using a 50mm/2.8 EL Nikkor enlarging lens at f5.6 or f8 - I don't see much of a difference between the two apertures. Corners look good. My digital camera is a Fuji X Pro 1, so with the 50 I can't get 1:1. I'm going to try the 35 Summicron at some point to see whether that with the cropped Fuji sensor will work to get to 1:1 magnification and workable corners.

I posted a few thoughts and photos of the setup/the resultant work on my blog:

Out of curiosity, where did you find your BEOON? There are a few outrageously priced ones on ebay, beyond that i got nothing... Even Bellamy Hunt couldn't find me one 🙂

I have seen similar slim pickings on eBay and resolved to snag the only sort of reasonably priced one to be found on the site last week.

Why would you want to stop down to F11..and have diffraction as a primary factor?
I also tried f/5.6 and f/8.0, and found that diffraction is not an issue with the DR-Summicron used on the BEOON. Keep in mind this is with a full frame camera, both the Leica M9 and M-Monochrom. With an APC sensor, diffraction many well start at f/11.0.

oh, you got that one for $260? Good for you.. i thought about it and then said, i'll ask JCH to find me one... bad call.

What was your high bid? 🙂

Nice.. you'd have beaten me to it. A guy sold one on FredMiranda a few months back for under $200.. I replied right away but was #3 in line.

Completed listings on eBay show there have been some BEOON sets going for less than $200 in recent months. I made an offer and got one for around $200 a few weeks ago. Be patient. And even if the ad doesn't give a Buy It Now option, it couldn't hurt to make an offer anyway. Some of those sets priced over $400 have been sitting there for a while.

I got mine pretty cheap about a year ago..
About $160 from a vintage camera store on the west coast..
Just google it from time to time....you may be surprised what you find..

Pacific Rim, Blue Moon are both good places to check with.

And if you're not familiar, check out Zeb Andrews on Flickr. He works at/runs Blue Moon and is a brilliant film photographer and a nice fellow to boot.

BEOON for sale now on ebay. Price is 150Euros. Item number 291761945646. No affiliation with the seller! It looks like the LTM to M adapter is missing, but otherwise appears complete.
