think i just made a mistake...i ordered a cv ltm adapter 28/90 to put the little cv 28/3.5 on the cl.
that's gonna bring up the 90 fl which isn't the best, i would think.
i should have ordered a plain 50 or a 28/50.

is that right?

There is no such thing as a 28/50 adapter as such. These are very old Leitz adapters that were meant for the M3 that didnt have 28mm framelines anyway so they labeled them with 28 as well. They are in actual fact 50/75 adapters. This adapter is the same as mounting your 40 on your CL. Both the 40mm framelines (which are always visible) and the 50mm framelines. Using a 28/90mm adapter will bring up the 90mm frameline replacing the 50mm framelines.

The key thing with M adapters is there is really only 3 of them. They are paired to cover the 6 framelines available. 28/90, 35/135, 50/75. If they are labled 50 only like early Leitz ones were (they didnt have 75mm lenses then) they still bring up 75mm framelines on those cameras that have them. 28/50 adapters are in actual fact 50/75 adapters. Weird I know but thats simply because at that time no camera had 28mm framelines so they ddnt think it mattered to add 28mm on the label.

So either way you have 2 pairs of framelines visible at all timeson your CL. Since none of them cover 28mm, I dont think it realy matters which 2 that you have visible. However by getting a 28/90 adapter you will have the correct framelines if you wish to use it on any other camera like the Ikon or Leica M. So I think the choice you made is probably the best one.

Joe,

You will be using the entire frame to approximate the 28mm, so it probably doesn't matter. It will be correct on the other M cameras though. I guess the question is whether the 90mm frame in the middle will be distracting?

BTW, how do you like the cv 28mm f/3.5. I have been considering one as it is the most affordable 28mm and is supposed to be superb. Keep us posted on it.

the lens is on it's way from captain and the adapter from gandy at cq.
i will pics of the set up and by the set up asap.

with luck both will be here by the end of next week but more likely the week after.

i'm gonna stay with the adapter i ordered and keep the option of using the lens on the zi open.

Interesting

Interesting

So with a 28 on a CLE, with proper 28 adapter or CLE 28 lens, do you just get white lines coming up at the extreme edges of the viewfinder, and little "28" numbers? Seems like a distraction.

I don't think I'd want a 90 frame coming up with 28 lens, but that's just me. Some of my cameras have "grid" features, and I always turn that off unless it's a specialized measuring type of photo.

Also, what's the final word on those white dot rokkor 28mm lens, are the bad for photos, or just ugly looking?

28/3.5 Vc

28/3.5 Vc

I think I've linked this http://www.flickr.com/photos/74312783@N00/38699931/in/set-821342/
before as an example of the 28/3.5's potential. My avatar shot was done with the 28 around f8.
"Turn" in my gallery here and maybe a couple others are done with the 28. It's still good wide open but improves down to 5.6 or so.

Regarding the adapter Joe asked about originally: I use the 35-135 on the 28 for my CLE because it doesn't trigger any framelines. All I get is the default, the 28. On the CL this would probably just leave you with the 40.

Ampguy, with a CLE things are a litte different. The 28mm framelines are always visible. To view the 28mm framelines without the 40mm framelines or 90mm framelines you need to use a 35/135 adapter on screw mount lens like the Skopar 28. The Rokkor 28 will also do this but on a Leica M/Zeiss Ikon this lens will key in the 35/135 framelines.

If you want to use a Leica/Zeiss 28 lens on a CLE it will key in the 90mm framelines. The 28 framelines are always visible so its prefect usable. The 90mm framelines on a CLE are tiny things which are actually just little corner frames so dont really detract from the viewfinder at all. On an M and Ikon both 28 and 90mm framelines will be visible as well so its no biggy.

The 28mm Rokkor is a great lens if the white spots havent taken over and reputed to be as good as the Version 3 Elmarit but much more compact.
