The other weirdness is all the double and treble spacing we get, meaning extra blank lines. I often wonder where it comes from, meaning the senders or the receivers.

This happens every time I write a post on RFF - unrelated to Tapatalk (I don't even know what that is 😱). This started happening a few months ago. No big deal, but slightly irritating.

An extra line is inserted with every double carriage return i.e. 2x <CR> becomes 3x <CR>. 🙁 Anyone else finding the same?

Yes. For longer than two months.....has done this for much longer (at least for me)

I'm having that happen as well, when I type and post the reply online. Then I go back and correct it. However, if I type my post off-line in a text processor, then when satisfied with the result, copy/paste it into RFF, all lines are correct.

Oddly, I've noticed that some RFF members' posts are prone to multiple linefeeds while others are not.

Well good news - the prism is fine, it just needs a really good cleaning if the whole array.

Bad news - Don found some things that were still wrong with the camera that my tech missed, or due to how worn it is, slipped back out of alignment already. I am leaning towards the latter since my tech has always done a good job in the past. I have given Don the green light to do a complete overhaul of the camera, which is definitely more in-depth than just a CLA. Hopefully this finally sorts the camera.

The 90mm lens binding had to do with how the rangefinder coupler was assembled - Don can correct that during the overhaul.

The second good news - the overhaul is only $115 more than if it needed the prism rebuilt. I will take that as a win.

DAG is in the final steps of finishing up the M3. I asked him if I should have it recovered, and his response was priceless.

your Leica M3 camera looks like it has been kicked & dropped by little kids for 10 years straight. Just leave the body cover as is.

I have to wonder if it is the roughest one he has been sent after that, lol.

I had to go back to page 1 to see the pictures of it. DAG was maybe Maybe a little too harsh--I was expecting to see something worse than it is. I think the cover is really OK, maybe even better than the one on my M2. I think I'd use it as is. The M3 is the very best for 50mm and longer lenses!

Rob, it photographs better than it actually is. In person, literally every surface shows signs of wear. The chrome is satin and worn almost through in multiple spots, edges are worn rounder than normal, shutter button is brassed through, base plate is very worn, the tripod mount looks hollowed out almost. However, none of the wear looks to be from damage, just lots of use. I love how it looks and feels, cannot wait to shoot a successful roll of film with it.

Inside, the black paint is very worn as well

And the take up spool is brassed completely through.

Well it is about a month later than I thought, but my M3 is done! DAG found more to do for certain.

From DAG: I re-cemented the smaller prism for the 2nd image, put rangefinder in good working order, replaced a worn take-up gear, lubed, & adjusted shutter, also lubed camera where needed.

So total minus shipping for a completely sorted (by DAG no less) m3 with a heck of a story behind it is around $650-700. Cannot wait to get it back.

Congrats! Enjoy the M3, it's been waiting to be out shooting!
The heavy wear indicates esp. chrome and covering use by a newspaper man. They are for most rough trade! Mine is badly worn also.
The inside wear pressure plate like my "ziggy" is miles of film.
Not the 2 rolls per annum! Wear like that in general also a heavy sweater, like self but possibly more acidic! My M3 ziggy has been in use in PJ, advertising, commercial and personal, esp. last 11 years when a heart thing,
occurred and M3 nearly outlived me! 😀
Make great exposures. Use more carefully. Viewfinder with balsam glue is now fragile.

Yeah, I typically destroyed most dslrs within 3 years when I was doing PJ work regularly.
