Gifted an M3

DAG sent the tracking info, looks like tomorrow will be the day! Can't wait to have it back. Not used to such a long gratification period before getting to use a camera, haha.

It is back! Along with this fun goggled summaron. Feels like a completely different camera. Viewfinder is crisp and super clear, he had to recement the secondary prism.

Congrats!! It looks quite nice and in good shape in these shots. Looking forward to seeing pics in the gallery from you and your M3.

You should complete this thread with a portrait taken with the both of you, like the one with the original owner.
Just got some historical photos of the man behind the camera!

If I can convince my wife to give me another covid haircut, sounds good.

Most of the way through the first roll after today, and what a difference. Smooth, quiet, very sharp and clear rangefinder now. It is like a different camera. No more grinding when advancing film. DaG actually sent the offending gear back with the camera.

This camera is determined to fight me, I have to say.

Towards the end of the roll, it slipped the film and stopped advancing it. Loaded a second roll to just blast through as a test, and the film counter stopped advancing at 18 shots, though this time the film kept moving. It did this 2 times in a row with the roll.

I was a bit bummed thinking I would have to ship it back to DAG, until I checked out the take up spool more closely; the bottom flange was bent! As the film advanced, the bend was pushing the film out of alignment is all I can guess.

I grabbed a spare spool I bought a while ago, reloaded my tester roll, and 3 times through now it has advanced properly and the film counter has worked perfectly.

I am starting to think this camera is going to be a bit like owning an old axe from grandpa - the shaft replaced 10 times and the head 5.
