Hi, waiting for my Fed 2 to arrive.

Can you help identify which iteration of the Fed 2 it is?

Ebay item #7510118744

The seller claims it to be a 2b, but the location of the flash sync socket seems to indicate its a later model.

Yet, it has no mushroom knob or a no self timer which the later models carry!

What about the macro rings? How do they work???

According to Princelle it is a 2c. There is some confusion in this because there are two naming conventions. My eBay seller, "cupog", uses Princelle's nomenclature. While if you check on Jim Blazik's web site, it is a 2d.

A 2B Type 2??? Not sure which method of classification they use. But from the website below, here's what i found:

"Fed 2B Type 1 will be in appearance the same camera as the FED 2A but adds a new shutter and is flash sync-ed. A faster Industar 50mm F2.8 lens is now available. PC connection on the FED 2B Type 1 will be in the body

The FED 2B Type 2 will be the same camera as type 1 but will move the PC Connection. The PC Connection will be in the of the VFH and will carry over the one shutter speed dial.

The FED 2B Type 2A later models will also have a new Film shutter-cocking knob"

thanks everyone for your replies!

The problem with identifying models of a lot of FSU cameras is there are a lot of transition models. When KMZ and FED started a new model there would still be some parts in the bins from the previous model. Because most of the parts on the older and newer models were interchangable, they would go ahead and use up the old parts in conbination with the newer ones. Zorki 1s and FED 2s show those transitions more than most of the other models. This is compunded by the fact that some FSU sellers will take the parts from several inoperative cameras to make one good one. Hence I have one camera with a FED 1 shell, a Zorki 1B viewfinder housing and a later shutter out of a Zorki 1E -- a Fezorkenstein!!!

Hi, I don't have a Princelle' book, but I 'd like to know how he designated this Fed-2? I have two of these so these were made in considerable numbers and should have an official model designation. Should this be the Model A?

The "original" FED 2 had no sync and a square rangefinder window rather than round. Don't know if it was the "A" model or simply the FED 2 (no designator)

And how often do you see a 50 anniverary Fed 3? Letters are engraved other than printed as that on a Zorki 4. They seem much less often seen than the Zorki 4 50 years editiion cameras.

Cheers

That's definitely an A. Only the A's had the signature on the top.

And that particular one is museum quality! Wow!!! :D

Thanks for your prompt reply! Because I often saw some later Fed 2s designated as the Model A, I am confused as what is this one? This should be the immediate model after the so called pre-series that has a square rangefinder window.

You know I always think Fed-2s are beautiful cameras just like those healthy and pretty ukranian county girls.:))

My FED-2 looks exactly like yours, but the PC contact is on the body instead of the top plate. I thought mine was a model 2c, but who knows?

One thing I do know - these are fun shooters. You will enjoy using your FED, I hope it arrives soon for you.

thanks chris! is that a hi matic 7s on your avatar? i have one of them too!
actually, i'm waiting on 3 FSUs to arrive. the fed 2, Zorki 4k and kiev 4am!
oh this wait is too long!

It's a Hi-Matic 7, actually -- no hot shoe or CLC metering. It was my very first RF camera. It's a great shooter but I hardly use it anymore.

You have 3 FSU cameras coming?? Sounds like you had a GAS attack!

I believe your camera is considered a 2B -- I have one that is identical except for a collapsible lens.
