I have one, but have not seen many of them. Normally they do not have the red dot on the front. How rare is this camera?

I was curious myself and googled... found this on another forum

"earliest cameras, some 90-95 or so, all with the SN 1468xxx, have the red Leitz metal circle ("red dot") on the front vulcanite"

My serial # is 1504101...

So real? Fake? The finish is vulcanite not leatherette so I'd think it would be kind hard to fake.

It wouldn't be hard to cut the Vulcanite, and install a red dot. My copy of the "Handbook of the LEICA-System" (July 1982) has an M4-P on the cover with no red dot. Wonder how many of those were ever made.
