I got a Black dot Leica logo

Press it with your thumb and gently twist (rotate) back and forth. Eventually the heat from your finger plus the motion will set the old logo free. Don't try to use any metal tools as you'll just end up scratching the finish.

It takes a while to get the old dot off. As many here suggest place your thumb against the dot, press down and rotate first in one direction, then in the other. At first it will all seem in vain. In fact it can take several minutes of effort before you even seem to be moving the damn thing in the slightest. But once it starts to move it all happens quickly and it will become loose quite rapidly. Warm air blown on the thing also helps.

The dot has to be removable as the vertical adjustment for the rangefinder is behind it (at least it is with digital Ms). When the time comes to glue the new dot on do not use a permanent glue - I used clear silicone which is soft and gooey but should come off again should it need to, using the same techniques as described above.

Be very careful attaching the new black dot, getting it even the tiniest fraction out of alignment will shout at you every time you look at the camera and make you hate it, not to mention the people who will point out it is crooked. So try to relax before doing it and try not to think how awful it would be if you got it wrong.

I used 2 match sticks and put the end of one on top of the horizontal bar of L, and the other against the bottom of the A and forced as hard as I could in an anticlockwise direction. Then, with the matches against the bottom of the L and top of A, forced it in a clockwise direction. Repeat, and slowly the sticky tape holding on the dot will give way.

A German photographer I met in Cologne told me he removed the red dot from his M6 by inserting a pin in the center of the dot, and then, gently, using it as a lever to lift the dot.

The thought of replacing the dot in my M6TTL bodies has crossed my mind, but then... I like how these dots stop traffic and make large crowds aware that I have a camera around my neck. 🙂

Looks nice Akiva.

The one I put on my M9 must be a bit crooked cause my horizons are always just a bit slanted. 🙂

DAG writes, "Yes, hold onto the word “LEICA” on the red logo with your fingernails, twist left & right until it loosens up, most loosen up in 30 seconds."

This worked.
