I just acquired a M3 and 50 rigid Summicron. I love the camera but its a slower consciousness than I am used to and heavy. I have to judge light ,compose deal with F-stop and shutter speed all at the same time. I got the 100 speed film down.... its when i have filters and shooting 400 and 1600 that I get messed up.. I will be going on a trip to a foreign country in December and I am just wondering what other RFF members opinions were on travelling photography and what they carry....

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I have the CM, it is a wonderful small camera with the RFF feeling, but a lot advanced automatics.

Because it is so small and includes a flash I take it with me whereever I go, so I actually end up taking more pictures with the CM than with my R8.

As far as I am concerned you are well served with the 40/2.4 summarit lens. It makes absolutely stunning pictures and the autofocus, which can be turned off, never misses.

So I would go for the CM and never look back

If you can live with one lens, the CM is a fabulous choice. It is likely to be the ultimate film P&S ever built, no company is likely to pour any more $$ into R&D for film P&W any more...

If you want the flexibility to use different lenses, and the ability to use filters, and hoods, then the M is the way to go.

Hi

I tried the CM last year but did not think it worth the money after find the viewfinder too small. I go a Rollei afm35 instead with a nicer viewfindser. It has a 38mm f2.6 lens and cost me 200 eurso in ebay and is worth considering.

my thought would be to shoot with whatever you are most comfortable using

if you're comfortable with manually judging and setting exposure (speed and f/stop) and focusing with your M3 by December, then put it in the bag. if not, use whatever preceded the M3 that you're used to shooting.

if you're able to shoot, say, 25 rolls of film through the M3 between now and your departure, i believe you'll be well on your way toward trusting your judgments of light and exposure.

why not go shoot a lot with the M3 rather than buy another camera?
