I just picked up an M2, it seems in good working order but my lens is much harder to mount than other Ms I've owned, without the satisfying 'click' at the end. Any idea what causes this and if it's something to be worried about and have fixed?

Thanks!

I had an M3 which had the similar effect with a 90mm Summicron, but which was fine on my M2. All other lenses were fine.

I think with wear and age the original tolerances have weakened. If the lens is loose I'd get it checked though.

Alright, thanks! The lens isn't loose or anything like that, I just noticed that the 'click' wasn't happening and was a little worried. I guess I'll just let it ride.

Mine’s always been like that. M5 much easier. M6 far too easy - a lens could fall off if you don’t click it. The digital Ms are about right. A bit of nose grease might help the lens on. It should click. The little spring might need lubricating too: less than a tiny drop of oil.

There needs to be a click to make sure the lens is locked, otherwise you need to turn the lens and check that you can't unlock it w/o pressing the release button. I had a tiny bit of dust in the lock spring once, just blow a little compressed air in there and see if some acient particles from the last millennium emerge. There should be a click again afterwards.😉
This +1 - after the airblow.
