Another jump in prices on the M6. Seeing them actually selling for $2000 USD or more. Basically double what they went for 5 or 6 years ago. Crazy. Those dang hipsters!!😀

Having both an M6 and the M240, I expect a cross over point where the M6 has a higher 2nd hand value. I'm not one to check prices but that time may have come already!

Must an effect of the M7 being out of production. Plus, the M6 is most commonly know Leica M among regular people. Every time someone sees my M4 at a party, they ask if its an M6 because that's the only M they know.

I just sold my M6 a few weeks ago for $1,770. I bought it for only $1,200. Interestingly, it didn't sell in the Classifieds here on RFF but it did sell on another camera forum. Needless to say, I was quite pleased that I got so much more for it than the price I had paid.

Leica M6 out of sight

Yeah crazy on eBay. Bought my mint M6 from a Japanese seller two years ago for AUD $2000. Now any bodies in like mint condition start at AUD $3000 seems like.

I bought an M6 Classic 0.85 about 7 years ago for $1300 when the 0.72 were selling for $1000. I'd subsequently read that few were fitted with that finder in the original M6.

I now only see the 0.85 on sale as TTL models. Had the VF optics upgraded to the MP and recently CLA'd by Leica.

Nikon FM2 and F3s have risen as well

Meanwhile - uncool cameras like pro slrs and non hasselblad mf systems are still affordable

Just like the DJIA and S&P 500 are treated as economic indicators, I propose the RFF 20 as an indicator of manual 35mm film camera values.

My list of the RFF 20 components is below. I have yet to tabulate the current RFF 20 index, but the value will be based on a KEH rating value of EXC+ for each component.

1. Nikon F2 Photomic
2. Canon F-1n (1976 variant)
3. Nikon F4s
4. Minolta Maxxum (Dynax) 7
5. Canon Elan 7
6. Minolta SRT-101
7. Olympus OM-1
8. Canon AE-1 Program
9. Leica M6 (0.72x)
10. Nikon FE2
11. Canon G-III QL17
12. Pentax MX
13. Contax IIIa
14. Rollei 35 (Germany, Tessar)
15. Olympus 35RC
16. Nikon FM
17. Leica M3 (DS ST PV)
18. Canon FTb
19. Pentax Spotmatic
20. Exakta VX

I recently scored an almost as new condition F4 for under $200.
I like it much more than my F6 and think it is the bargain buy out there.

I like the idea that Leicas are increasing in value as I have many. 🙂

I sold a Bessa R3a a couple o years back for $500. Should have held onto it but I really didn’t like it.

I picked up a M6TTL 0.58 a few years ago at a fantastic price of $1,300 (back they they typically were between 1,8k-2k). The sale of a Stylus Epic covered about 1/3rd of it. Certain point and shoots have been crazy for a while.

Crazy is an understatement. Most if not all are no longer repairable, something hipsters haven't absorbed yet. Long after the autofocus motors on a Kyocera-made Contax is a frozen paperweight, an M2-M6 will still be around. The M6 meter may eventually join the Contax but then it'll be an M4 for all intents and purposes.

Not so the M6TTL or M7.

Why wouldn’t the M6ttl also turn into an m4 if the meter goes out? It still is a mechanical camera. And the m7 has 125 and 60 as mechanical shutter speeds...

Pal K, an RFF20 index is an EXC+ idea! Funny and useful.

I'll check the selling prices and start posting a monthly RFF 20 Index every month in a separate thread.

It will give me something to do besides collecting string.

The price of the M6 is going up probably because all the zinc vs. brass topics are drying up.

It is indeed a good camera, but so is the Zeiss Ikon Contessa fixed-lens RF camera I just bought for 30€, with a free 50mm f2.8 lens.

Personally I see no reason to get into the M mount so desperately whilst the alternatives are so cheap (and quite good, if one is willing to drop the Leica fetishism). For example, for less than 200€, one can probably get a Minolta AF camera plus 35-70mm/f4, 70-210mm/f4 and 50mm/f1.7 lenses. In my opinion, those lenses are of extraordinary values.
