Leica M6 out of sight

Why wouldn’t the M6ttl also turn into an m4 if the meter goes out? It still is a mechanical camera. And the m7 has 125 and 60 as mechanical shutter speeds...

The M6TTL is certainly useable without its electronics, but one downside compared to the non-TTL is it can’t trigger a flash without them. Another point why I think either M6 with dead meters wouldn’t be like the non metered Ms is because of their cut out framelines...

Another reason to stop buying-selling gear, and to use what you already own to take photos, spending your bucks at films and chemistry - and traveling. Don't feed the speculation.

Sold mine 18 months ago. I don't regret it photographically as I thought the metering antediluvian but the loss of dosh is a bore, but that's life.

All the highly sought after cameras have metering in common (Mamiya 7, Pentax 67, M6, Contax P&S). I predict the M5 will benefit, but I'm not selling mine, it's such a wonderful bit of kit.

The more boring cameras and the ignored are also rising in price; look at the Olympus XA1 f'instance. And 1930's FEDs etc, etc.

Regards, David

Time to sell? I am pretty happy with my R2A and R4M, so M6 probably has to go - I shoot only 10 rolls a year or so. I really don't need it (except for some sentimental reasons).

Another jump in prices on the M6. Seeing them actually selling for $2000 USD or more. Basically double what they went for 5 or 6 years ago. Crazy. Those dang hipsters!!😀

Really? I first bought in to Leica 5-6 years ago (eventually with an M2, after checking out most models) and I don’t recall M6’s regularly going for $1000 at the time...

I've never bought a camera with the intention to sell it at a profit but I saw today that my M6 black paint TTL 'millennium edition' now goes for three times the price I paid for it some 12 years ago...

I think this is all temporary fluctuations. My M6 TTL, bought brand new in 2000, was $1900. It's kind of bizarre to think that they would be selling for more than that twenty years later. I think the price will go back down to "normal" again.

Best,
-Tim

I'm not so sure... I think the current prices are due to less and less good examples being available and film becoming a bit more popular again. The only way I can see prices for hot film cameras going down again is if new ones are made at great prices.

Nikon FM2 and F3s have risen as well

Meanwhile - uncool cameras like pro slrs and non hasselblad mf systems are still affordable

Certain MF rigs are exploding in price. 2 years ago you could buy the Fuji GA645 cameras for $300 and the GS645 cameras for $200. They've each doubled in price since.

I have sold very few lenses or cameras over the past 20 years. I enjoy using the photography equipment that I own.

I might add that sales of CV Bessa's and the Zeiss Ikon camera's are also at ridiculous prices. Could I have predicted this I would have bought 10 each of these at issue and made a killing. Regardless both models are lovely cameras but not worth the asking prices we are seeing. Mr K, please reissue some of these models!!

My money is on the presence of a meter combined with the classic appearance.

When I bought my M5 from Red Dot in London, Ivor there showed me an M6 with lots of pitting and said such was the shortage of good ones, he was buying ones he wouldn't have touched even a year before. He also said the price of screw mount Leicas was rising as people could no longer afford M mount ones.

Ultimately I'm happy with what I've got now and I'm in the lucky position of choosing my moment to sell stuff I may not need in future.

And yes, MF has shot up too. Mainly the sort of stuff people with beanie hats want to buy!
