This camera is still in production, every Leica store has them, so what's so special that B&H has some? If I were to buy a new Leica, I'd definitely buy it from a Leica store and not B&H. Same prices.

I was puzzled with same question.
In my FSU imagination, I draw lineups to B&H store. Overnight, for three days. Waiting to grab limited amounts on MP. Some a selling their place in line, for 500$.

I buy my bulk film and chemistry from B&H. I watch the placeholder for MP's there, and this is the first there has been "in stock, ships today". I occasionally check the Leica stores and they are out of stock every time I check. I'm not buying, just checking. If I buy one it will be a used one.

I might bite. Do Leica service the cameras? It would pay off in the long run not to have to gamble anymore on 50+ year old cameras and dubious "CLA's".

They sure do, but depending on what country you live in, service can range from good to bad (based on what you read here on RFF). Many folks opt for an independent technician for service, once the camera is off warranty.

A black paint a la carte MP is my ultimate dream. Second to that is a red Jaguar E-type (or was it in first place?:bang🙂 But I learned long ago, some dreams are best left alone as dreams.😀

Even if a Leica store doesn't have it, they can get you a brand new one from the factory within a week or so. I think if you buy from and establish a relationship with your local Leica store, you'd benefit from that quite a lot. For example, every time I go they ask me if I need a loaner camera and/or loaner lenses, for as long as I want and for free. Plus, I always get a glass of champagne for free 🙂 and get invited to their receptions and events to meet other photographers.

Aside from the other valid answers here, I think Leica tried to go back to their old "all metal parts" construction ethos so that the MP would be as durable as the legend maker III series and M2, M3 & M4 cameras. The rangefinder is also supposed to be less flare-prone than what the M6 had. They all seem pretty durable to me. They should be, for what they cost.
