Let us not despair, all. There is yet another way.

It is still about $650 after all the fixes, and is one of the roughest cosmetic condition leicas that I have ever seen that has not been dropped or otherwise damaged.

This 1961 M2 will be about the same cost after CLA and recover from Youxin. I traded a bunch of stuff for it, so out of pocket is only the CLA, about $220 plus shipping.

Been looking for a silver chrome M4 for a couple of days. Pretty much sold out in most places and the ones on evilbay are ridiculously overpriced. Almost 1800USD for a all dented up specimen. Crazy time. 😱

I was offered one for $980 plus shipping from the Netherlands about a month ago, just didn't have the cash together at the time. They're out there. The leica classifieds on facebook have a lot of good stuff move through them.

Now I have motivation for a Facebook account! 😀

Nice, that was a good deal on that one too! Just make sure you check the semi-transparent mirror carefully to look for oxidizing.

Have Fun!

Thanks. It was the best deal I’ve seen so far, and it has a six month warranty. I’ll check the viewfinder today in better light. There are some minor dents in the top plate, but overall it seems in good condition.

To check for the mirror issue shine a light into the front of the viewfinder at around a 45 degree angle (off to the side of the camera) and look at the viewfinder from around the same angle. You are basically trying to light up anything on the semi-transparent mirror. If you see a bunch of dots, or spidery web type thing illuminated it is the mirror oxidizing.

Mirror looks good, as best I can tell; maybe a few dots. The focus patch has pretty good contrast in bright light.
