M2 black paint takes a dip in the river

Eh, he's just making sure other black paint m2s rise in value. Wish I afford to thrash cameras like that. I bet you photojournalists tried hard to keep their equipment in good shape to the best of their ability. Remember, good working equipment paid their bills

There's use and there's abuse. It's the difference between using your truck to haul ****, and jumping your truck "because it's tough"

you guys are all hilarious.

the camera is fine, i dried it in the sun, lens is fine too. been using it everyday since with no problems whatsoever.

was i careless?
yes i was, i was completely focused on landing and releasing that beautiful brown trout.

do i care for my equipment?
yes i do, i love my camera and i use it everyday. but it also takes adventures and spills with me, falls, drinks poured on it, rain, all sorts of stuff.

will it lose value?
i don't care, that never crossed my mind. it will never be sold and to me the camera has become more valuable seeing how it handled the accident. i feel as it was another bonding experience that made me fall even more in love.
seems like most people have leicas for the re-sale value and are afraid of taking them out of the house.. sad actually.

do i care what you all think?

not really. 🙂

hi helen! hi simon! <3

Nick looks like he's fly fishing for trout and has a large one that he's releasing. As a fellow fly fishing nut, I can say two things: (a) when a big one is on, pretty much every other consideration goes out the window; (b) if I'm right and he's releasing the trout, I'm glad he's treating the trout right. As a valuable genetic reservoir since it's grown large and is thus "successful", the trout needs to go back to the environment safely -- in my book, that's FAR more important than a hunk of metal and glass that can be dried, cleaned, and (if necessary) repaired. While I don't bring my Leicas when I'm wading in rivers, I'm not gonna judge Nick once he was into the trout: he has his priorities right in my book. If I'm wrong, and he's killing the trout AND dunking the Leica, then I just have to sigh and shake my head. 😀

he was released, i handled him with perfection and respect. i was more into that fish than anything in the world. camera can have a CLA but that fish was waaaay more important to me. ahahaa.
i mean, a 22inch wild brown trout, probley around 7 years old id say on a barbless size 12 hook with 6x tippet... that was a challange!!!!! i couldnt think of anything else but how to get that thing in.

i was alittle bummed about the camera, i just took the film out and took the camera apart left it on a rock and kept fishing.

Wish I could get out on the water with you and Kevin (Papercut). Keep having fun Dominic!

Sorry man, didn't mean to offend you, it's your camera, you can cover it in faeces if you like.
I just posted it because it's not something that you see everyday happening to gear.
Cheers.

oh im not offended at all, i just find it funny that people can get so worked up by what other people do.

im stoked you shared the post 🙂 it should be seen, im not ashamed of anything.

hopefully it inspires people to risk alittle more, look how stupid i was! and nothing happend. absolutely nothing.

The most common way cameras are abused is as interior decorations. Things go wrong sometimes, sometimes it's even our own damn fault when they do. But in the same way it's better to take a camera out into the world where it can be used and bad things can happen to it, it's better to screw up than to never put yourself in a position where you might.

You would likely be horrified if you saw how pristine my M6 is (sadly due to far too little use over the years). Please know that I'm definitely not proud of this fact and after more than a decade of not using the camera only now am I contemplating rekindling the enjoyment I used to receive from photography.

Now personally I don't care all that much about what kind of images someone chooses to capture. Street photography is often the most interesting to me, but I can appreciate any photo that I receive enjoyment from viewing.

But I'll note this: I'm very glad to have stumbled across this thread. Not only do I find the photos you take to be very enjoyable, but as someone who became overwhelmed with a passion for spey fishing for steelhead just five years ago (never really into fishing of any kind before that) I'm also incredibly envious of your fly fishing successes. Beyond that, I'm a huge music fan and after seeing an image of your trumpet I went on to find some video of your playing. Incredible. You are a person with numerous talents that I greatly admire. You may not care what I think, but hopefully you can accept a compliment(s) when offered.

Peace

if you guys ever come fish in nor cal, hit me up! good steelheading up here and these are my homegrounds. i know some good holes. 🙂

Resurrecting a very old thread that I just caught up on.

Glad to hear the fish was returned safe and sound!

I spent 15 years in the Bay Area before moving to NY -- I'd love to get back to NorCal for some fishing! And likewise if you're ever out this way (NY / CT) -- that goes for MikeL too (though he seems never to come out east). I landed a lovely 21" brown in the Housatonic in the fall of 2017. Took an Isonychia wet fly fished semi-dry (in the film). Spent the time to revive it properly and sent it back on its way. Sadly, I broke an even larger fish off the following weekend -- man that thing was taking line like nobody's business. Wrapped the line around a submerged boulder. Sigh. But regardless, the Housie is a great river in the fall. Treacherous wading though. 🙂

Okay, okay! I’m going to get out there next spring Kevin, and I’ll have a tenkara rig by then. Okay?

Fish story. Not buying it.
