M2 black paint takes a dip in the river

It's a tool; not a piece of jewelry.

At least he's using the camera, not a "fondler" or a snap shot warrior like so many other Leica owners.

It you're out there doing stuff, crap happens. I dropped an M4 into three feet of salt water ten or so years ago.

You don't think some photojournalist in the 60's didn't abuse their cameras way more?

You may have seen photos of Winogrand's M4. To me that's the perfect example of a camera that has been used, heavily used, certainly not gratuitously abused.

Yeah, I use my cameras too. The black paint ones are well worn. And I've fallen in the local lake once, luckily when I wasn't carrying a camera (I was trying to return a stranded and somewhat dehydrated frog to the water). I've used my Leicas when wading in Hungarian Furdo, too, but the footing there is good. I'm assuming this was an accident and someone photographed him. If not...

Cheers,

R.

Shwoing the fish in the river what a real M camera is like was a good deed! 🙂 Fish have to know it.
Buy a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.
Teach a fish to use a Leica and.... wait, what were we talking about?

Treating gear badly is a sure way to have it let you down when you don't want it to. If this doesn't bother you then so be it - it would bother me and my gear is well-used and shows the results of being well-used. But its not abused ....

Exactly. Hammering on your gear just means it may fail when you need it the most.
Imagine if the owner of that dunked Leica then just witnessed Big Foot riding the Loch Ness monster while waving to a hovering UFO. He wouldn't have been able to capture that moment because he broke his camera.

All kidding aside, this is why I think the Nikonos V is the best 'street' camera ever. It has a crackin lens, can take more abuse than anything out there, and is waterproof. Humongous VF, AE and manual exposure, easy scale focusing. And cheap.

Nick looks like he's fly fishing for trout and has a large one that he's releasing. As a fellow fly fishing nut, I can say two things: (a) when a big one is on, pretty much every other consideration goes out the window; (b) if I'm right and he's releasing the trout, I'm glad he's treating the trout right. As a valuable genetic reservoir since it's grown large and is thus "successful", the trout needs to go back to the environment safely -- in my book, that's FAR more important than a hunk of metal and glass that can be dried, cleaned, and (if necessary) repaired. While I don't bring my Leicas when I'm wading in rivers, I'm not gonna judge Nick once he was into the trout: he has his priorities right in my book. If I'm wrong, and he's killing the trout AND dunking the Leica, then I just have to sigh and shake my head. 😀

When working in lakes, I usually carry the camera on neck, then put it inside the wader. The only non-water proof thing goes under the water is my 7 EUR Casio F91W.

oh my Goodness, did not recognize Nicky
well Nicholas, were You skinny dipping...trout fishing... with your 35 summilux or was it the 40 cron
Crazy YOU, You always still make me laugh !!

I remember when Nicky gave up on his black paint MP feeling too Yuppie (LOL)
and got the BP M2 and found Happiness

Dude makes some righteous images. As far as I'm concerned he can do whatever he wants with his cameras.
