Just wondering if anyone has come across counterfeits of the M6J?

Because of the unique top plate, I hadnt heard of any copies floating about. Take a look at this post on instagram. Seems more like an MP with a partially engraved M6J top.
Unless it was an M6J that was damaged & restored with inauthentic parts.😱
What do you think?

Well. The M6J has serial number -- date and serial (and M6J) in the usual place. The instagram photo doesn't have that. Perhaps paranoid people photoshopping the image? Not that necessary in my opinion. The remainder seems consisitent with an M6J...what specifically looks out of place?

Looks OK to me.
Has the correct finger guard on the lens release and all I'd expect to see on a J
Only thing missing is the serial number in line with the hotshoe (could be photoshopped out) and it's matching lens.
The Leicavit is a nice addition

Shutter speed dial isn't original.
Hotshoe isn't original
back door meter dial is wrong,
doesn't have the M3style frosted rangefinder window in the center.
The lack of top plateEngraving for M6J/year#/#1-40 could be photoshopped out.
Or it could be a blank replacement top.
There are pix of these blank tops that do have the engraving for the 40year anniversary. I'll post one later.

I want to make it clear that I'm not accusing PopFlash of anything.

There are so many people modding cameras plus Leica has issued other limited cameras with similar M3 style top plates. And there are plenty of A La Carte cameras out there.

It just seems to me that this would've taken a little work. And it seems odd to have restored a damaged limited edition camera with the wrong parts.
Even if this was merely an MP with the M6J top slipped onto it...that would've involved swapping out the rewind knobs. Not so easy without the right parts.

Yes, I agree, the Leicavit is a nice touch.

My mistake for not flicking through the pics on the phone as opposed to looking on the PC
Yes the window is not std, although the std M6J RF flares like a demon and this would make it much more user friendly
The back door dial is definitely a bit strange
Hard to see if the flash symbol and B are red on the speed dial
The hotshoe connection is a different shape
It should have leather skin, hard to tell, from the insta
But around the screws it sinks

Attached are pics of my J

I don't want to confuse the original issue. But here's an example of a dealer posting an M6J to Instagram but clearly noting that the M6J has special order parts. So not 100% original. But clearly chosen as a detail someone else might appreciate. Also the engraving is evident on the top plate so there's little doubt that it's not an authentic M6J.

It's nowhere on his site as for sale. Just an Instagram.
I've been dealing with Popflash for almost 10 years and they are reputable and honest.

Well, the M6J isnt a very common camera. So maybe the details elude Popflash. Theyve posted that the camera is 100% authentic & real. Yet other people on this thread clearly see that there are components not original to a 1994 M6J

Ive done more searches and found another site claiming to be selling an M6J tho its in dubious condition. Maybe I'll add that later. If anyone has interest....
