M7 Discontinued after 15 years

I picked up the last (so they told me) M7 blk body from B&H on Memorial day. thru it. In typical B&H fashion it came in a bit less than the advertised price. It just showed up and I am out the door to run a roll thru it.

What is its serial #?

p.s. congrats!

4233238---Given the crazy ad for the last M3 perhaps I shouldn't have opened the box 🙂

I'm thinking it was possibly made a couple of years ago as the batteries (yes batteries were included ha!) had an expiration date of 2024 and the spare set I purchased were marked 2026.

Nice! Definitely a very recent build.
There is/was a Hong Kong seller on ebay selling new M7s at a very large discount. He must have obtained old stock from someplace. When I emailed him to ask what the serial #s were, he said in the 27xxxx range!
That makes them really old new stock.

B&H has some really old info listed for that starter kit:

"Large assortment of high performance lenses ranging from 21 to 135mm and speeds as fast as f/1.0"

We all know of the infamous 0.95 lens, plus what about the 18mm SuperElmar?

The 18/3.8 was introduced in 2009 (the WATE 2006). Obviously they didn't bother to update the M7's literature.

There is rarely, if ever, a Tariff or other government fee for an item shipped into the US for personal use. From my 30 years experience (learned the hard way) the private shippers all charge a hefty fee to inspect the package to determine if a tariff does apply. Never has for me but the carrier will hold your package for ransom if you do not pay their inspection fee. They threaten to sell at auction if you do not pay promptly.

I've never been charged any fees for a package shipped via the US Postal service as long as the shipper has properly filled out the forms. Since USPS contracts with private carriers like UPS for oversea shipments it is usually faster and cheaper to use USPS.

I have bought lots of high ticket items from overseas, including those Euro sellers, and have never had the NON DHL shipper charge me a fee.
The only time I had an issue was with DHL, and that was a Nikon F2 coming back from a service by Sover Wong. I had clearly stated what it was, camera coming back from service that I had originally sent etc etc and they ignored it and tried to stiff me. However, I fought them, proved it was their fault because they had ignored all the provided documentation, and they caved. I let Sover know, and he no longer uses DHL.

Never had an issue with any of the other shippers.

Intermediate shutter speeds

Intermediate shutter speeds

There is a misconception that only the M5 can give you intermediate shutter speeds. Not true.

The M7 gives you intermediate speeds in the AUTO mode.
However, if you use manual mode, you are stuck with the fixed shutter speeds.

The M3,M2, M4, M4-2 and M5 give you the ability to set intermediate speeds. That's why you can use an old M3 double stroke (with the former shutter speed scale, which includes 1/50, 1/100, etc), and use it with the MR-4 meter. It's because you can set intermediate shutter speeds.

There are exceptions: you can't use intermediate speeds between 1/8 and 1/15, and between 1/30 and 1/50. All of the congregation please turn to the Leica M2 instruction manual (1966), page 5, and read the paragraph on "setting the shutter speed".

They took this feature away on the M4-P. Don't know if the M6, MP and M-A can do the intermediate speeds either.
