Update - Here is the report from Will

The rangefinder steering was loose and needed to be adjusted. It also did not have a fixing screw; they used glue. That’s waiting for trouble.
So made a screw thread, adjusted it and secured it with a set screw.
It’s a very good lens by the way.

So the lens has now been modified with - I imagine - a grub screw. I'm no lens technician, but I was surprised to find that there was no locking device and that there only seemed to be glue.
They are nice lenses - but if Will can modify with a locking grub screw, then it could have been done by the maker and I am a bit disappointed that this is not part of the original design.

Hopefully this thread is useful to others who own or who are going to own an MS-Optical lens.
I shall let the maker know.

By the way, the work has been completed after only 4 days and Will van Manen will be sending the lens back after Christmas.
Very impressive.

Here is a final update.
The lens arrived back from Will a week ago. Perfectly repaired - and modified.
Works beautifully.
I would have had it a week earlier had it not been for Christmas and New Year.

The Ms Optical 35mm and 28mm lenses really must be the ultimate walk around/hiking lenses for daylight use (please start off-topic arguments about this on a new thread -

)

So here is my take. Super lenses. Lots of fun. Extremely portable - very unobtrusive. I bet the 35 (at least) works great on the tiny A7(r).

Very nicely constructed and solid feeling lens - except for the fact that the steering ring is glued into place. I really don't why the maker - who is a craftsman engineer, was happy with that.
They are all like that - 28mm and 35mm. I don't know about the 50mm. I don't have one.
If you get one, it will probably be fine - but if you have to have it serviced or calibrated - then send it to Will van Manen and ask him to modify it at the same time. It isn't expensive and he is very quick. I am quite sure that the mod will add to the resale value of the lens as well.

You can see the tiny grub-screw in the picture - and it really is very very tiny. You can see that Will has drilled an opencast threaded channel in the side of the shell and the screw is anchored in the hole at the end of it.

agreed that his lens and designs are superb, but the aperture unit of the ms-28 is set in place by bondo and it doesn't look like a permanent solution....

Hello Everyone!

I know, this question comes pretty late 😉 but...

Does anyone know what kind of glue is used in the MS Optics lenses?
What would be the best way to safely remove it if it's being used as a threadlock?

I have a pretty safe for optics 100% IPA but something tells me it's too gentle to produce any immediate effects. Acetone is something I probably would want to avoid.

Any ideas?

I sent my 35/3.5 to DAG for CLA since I was also having the calibration issue. Got it off eBay and shot and treated it originally like my other native M lenses. Ran into focus tab screw and the focus ring loosening and dropping out altogether also. While I enjoy the output of the lens, I still have a nagging worry about misalignment and loosing something while out and about.

Thanks Cagger for sharing the contact and solution (that I'm reading years and years later). Had been occasionally wondering if anyone knew of someone to service. Seemed too much of a hassle to send back to the original maker.
