My perfect camera would be...

Epson R-D1 with Canon 6D sensor.

Almost the same for me, as long as:

- it retains the Epson color secret sauce
- it comes with a 0.7 mag vf, or at least offers the choice between a 1:1 version and one with 35mm framelines.

Ignoring the laws of economics and physics it would be an 8x10 with a digital back!

More realistically...

- Leica Monochrom body (first version) in chrome or black
- LCD removed - just an old fashioned ISO dial on the back
- Sensor from either the M Monochrom or the M240
- M8 style small frame counter on top for battery read out and to indicate data being written.

That's it. A real purist M that feels exactly like a film M except that you don't unload film from it you just take out the SD card. Monochrom option for dedicated B&W photographers and colour M for those who want the option to choose either colour or B&W.

My perfect camera would be ...

A digital version of the Nikon F2 Titanium SLR that produces high quality full-frame Fuji images.

I've decided to pretty much dispense with my DSLR's and go strictly P&S with what I carry.

Others I am sure will think and feel differently but I already know that I'll never take a memorable picture that matters to anyone but myself.

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)

There is something about that insight that seems liberating. I've begun to wonder if I really need to bring as much gear as I have in the past. I'm not getting any younger.

My dream camera would be a Fuji xpro camera body mated w/ a foveon sensor w/ a high ISO that looks good up to 3200 and acceptable to 12800 or a monochrome sensor. Features of the Fuji body pretty much like the current xp2.

1. Ricoh GR with a small OVF... just like the GR1

2. Digital Mamiya 7

3. An affordable digital M without an LCD screen

Agreed. ... and apparently people didn;t read the first post of this thread.

Thanks for sticking to the first post man! As for the X70, I can't consider a camera without a viewfinder an option, I precisely bought the X100 over Ricoh GR just because of this. So I guess I'll have to wait for Ricoh to launch a faithful digital recreation of the GR1 in all its glory, viewfinder included!

Having the sensor of my 5DII in my Praktica MTL3 with the user interface of the MTL3. I'd have fun again in going out to take photos. If the output would look like Kodachrome 64 that would be heaven.

I did read the first post but something even smaller than the X100 would be agony to use.

digital Barnack

digital Barnack

I'd have a full-frame digital Leica IIIg or a digital Canon P please.

Small, full frame, versatile, EVF is okay (as long as it can be set to B&W), no LCD needed, not even a lightmeter or auto setting. All manual, no need to go past 12MP. Should be able to do very wide lenses though. I like my Tamron 17mm on a Nikon D600.

To have something like that in Barnack size would be awesome.

A Canon P with interchangeable backs. One back plain, one where you could change film types midroll and one digital.

Second thought:

A Fuji X-Pro2 with an amazing AF-System and a replaceable sensor. I could choose between the sensor of the Sony A7 RII, the A7 SII or of the Leica Monochrom 240.
Or a Nikon Df with thesame replaceable sensor and the AF-System of the D4.
