My recovered M2

After seeing Nick's thread I decided I needed to show off my newly recovered M2. The skin is dark brown lizard (cowhide, I believe) from Aki-Asahi. There was no need for new leather, as the camera had nice and complete covering, but I knew it wasn't original anyways, so I had no qualms about putting the new cover on.

Anyways, its not a great picture. It looks much better in person.

Thanks Joe. I just really like brown, so I think its a good look. I was actually hesitant about having a 'lizard' pattern, I would have preferred this color but with a pattern similar to the original vulcanite. Now I really like it.

Thats too bad about the original cover, but at least Aki sent out the replacement ASAP. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of it with the new skin.

Here's one more shot, I think it shows the color a little better.

Very kewl! Was the replacement hard to do? I love that cover ever since I saw Frank's!

Its actually very easy. The hardest part is removing the old cover and the old dried adhesive. However, this camera had the vulcanite replaced with a black leather cover back in August when it was CLA'd by DAG by the previous owner, so removing the cover was very easy and there was no dried glue to scrape off. The whole process took about 15 minutes.

I've got the black lizard skin on mine.. it's sort of grabby but not too cushy.. a little slick in a way, but very easy to grip.. kinda hard to explain.. but it's sweet

It provides a nice grip. I don't think that the pattern of the material has so much to do with the 'gripability' as does the material itself. To me the leather has a nice grip to it. It could be a little better, but its not like its going to just fall out of your hands. Anyways, recovering an M couldn't be easier, its a project anyone can manage. Also, I HIGHLY recommend Aki-Asahi and his products.

The brown and chrome combo looks real good. I bet it looks great in person. The good thing about recovering your m is that after the first time it will be easy to remove the skin and try a new color or texture. When you think about it, coverings are one of the cheapest accessories in Leicadom.

I agree! At $19 per covering (including shipping) recovering your M with an Aki skin is something everyone should do. Its fun and it adds a little personality to your camera. Unless your camera is an original museum piece, I don't see any reason to not recover the camera with something a bit more exciting than black, unless you're just in to simple.

Nice ones, Brett and Kyle.

Brett, what lens is that you've got mounted, it looks like it has Zeiss Opton written but the base of an old Contax mount Zeiss lens?
you got it, Tom.. it's a Sonnar 50/1.5 from my Contax IIa, mounted with a Contax-to-M mount adapter

Kyle, Frank S, Brett,
I've gone to Aki Asahi's webpage but I don't see any option for anything but "black", am I missing something?
