Some examples here (not for photo excellence but for the purpose of illustrating performance).

I will post some more showing color drift and corner vignette performance for wider lenses. Bottom line is: no magenta drift yet, some cyan drift but not bad, strong-ish luminance vignetting, some loss of detail. Pretty much like what Sean Reid showed on the A7r, except the color performance is a fair bit better rendering my lenses useful-- though not for good landscape.

Affects everything I have 35 and wider, although the C Voigtlander 35 1.2 does quite well.

I also got the EF adapter and try a few of those lenses still in my possession.

(edited to add aperture and lens)

It's definitely better out of the camera. Like Ricoh m module except wide at edges. Of course you balance that with resolution loss. This camera is a perfect compliment to M240 (according to my tests so far) because it works ok for wide, serious landscape use M, works for normal and long, use M for landscape and good light use A7s for low light and video.

I'll be posting examples with:
C Voigtlander 15mm 4.5
Leica 28mm elmarit
C Voigtlander 35 1.2 (1)
Skipping Leica Summicron, it's just too obviously better on M
Leica 50mm Summilux asph
Leica 21mm elmarit
C Voigtlander 75mm 1.8
Leica 90mm summarit

in addition to the current

I would buy one of these if they could do the following:

1. Make it some form of electronic shutter, as quiet as the X100S as can be. The current shutter noise is a deal breaker for what I would hope to use this camera for.

2. Work with an updated adapter be able to better use Nikon "G" type AF lenses.

They are on the right track though, the size is amazing....

1) Film in 4K (which is full resolution for the sensor anyway) and have a silent electronic shutter. Take your still from the video stream. On the 7S this does not mean losing any still quality versus single capture.

2) Use Minolta or Canon AF lenses. Or any manual focus, manual aperture lens.

🙂

The A7S has a full electronic shutter. The camera can fire without any mechanical motion from within.

You will note mild cyan drift in the 21mm, and moderate corner resolution loss.
In the 15mm, strong loss of corner resolution and moderate cyan drift.
In the 28mm, very little resolution loss in corner and minor cyan drift.
The 35 'cron behaves similarly to the 28 Elmarit.

The above (15, 21, 28, 35 (cron only)) are all the lenses I have that I consider "imperfect" on the A7s. They are all, however, useable; though the 15mm corner resolution renders it only good for center frame subject work. The Leica 28mm was my surprise-- it is very usable on this camera, I didn't expect it to be.

The 35 1.2 Voigt will be coming soon-- which is spectacular on the A7s, along with 75mm heliar and some other samples (I may sneak some Canon EF samples in despite the OP title).

Although interesting, I am needing this for corporate and political journalism, near silence is a *must* as is my ability to occasionally use my Nikon glass. Pulling still from 4K video is not really a viable option here.

I'm sure this will all emerge...

On my A7s, it is completely and totally SILENT, no sound whatsoever, when the electronic shutter option is selected. In this way it is DIFFERENT from the A7 and A7R in that it has a completely silent full resolution normal still shooting option-- in fact it is quieter than X100s because even it snicks a leaf shutter. Just an FYI.

Ah, now that is good to know. I have a shoot coming up in a couple weeks, maybe I will rent one and a M adapter to at least use with my 35 & 50...

This is correct. And what's even more important is that there is no noticeable shutter lag and much less blackout. The A7R misses shots for me regularly. I have tested the A7S (but only in a shallow way), and I tend to hit what I think the photo will be. It should be noted that the silent shutter will have the rolling shutter/jello effect. So no trains, but it is absolutely perfect for most street photography.

I have an A7s with some rangefinder lenses and i'm loving it. I was concerned based on the A7 and A7r but nothing has really jumped out at me.

I have 12mm voigtlander (better on this than my old Nex), 28mm, 21mm, 35mm and i don't see any major issues. The 12mm is crazy wide on full frame. I will see if i can find some photos to show a flat field. There is vignetting as you'd expect but no colour shifts like you see on the other A7 models.

The silent shutter is cool, although the scanning time from top to bottom isn't as fast as a real shutter so if you're shooting moving subjects then you may get skew or jello effects.

All in all i'm *very* happy with the A7s and the myriad of lenses i have.

And 12MB file sizes, so much more sensible

cheers
Paul

The A7 also does not have any red corners with the CV12. I sold the lens because it was too wide, though - never really knew what to do with the 12mm FOV on FF.
