This is a wonderful thread. The comments about all the images give them a kind of bittersweet context, a diary about a changing world. Thank you for keeping this thread going.
There's a real timeless quality to these images, a combination of film, lens and your composition. They could have been taken any time in the last 50 years, not counting any modern cars or buildings.

In Toronto you are totally street legal as long as you wear shoes.
It was this protester mistake. And also to disturb some cuban things on display. It was solidarity with Cuba day.

One of my industry colleagues came from Cuba. They took all of her belongings in cuban airport. She came to Canada barely clothed.

Taken sometime ago with M3 ELC DS and Rokkor 40/2. All are gone now. To better hands, I believe.

First time seeing this post and I really enjoy looking at the photos you've taken!

I do have some questions as I've recently discovered the M4-2 and there aren't many videos or reviews talking about it to satisfy my curiosity.

Since the M4-2 appears to be cheaper than other M versions, mainly the older ones such as M3, M2 and what not. How would you compare the feel and every day use of the Canada made one compared to the ones made in Germany.

Also the advanced lever on the M4-2, is that a plastic covering on the end of it? Does the camera feel any "less expensive" than it's older counterparts or would you say that it still gives the Leica experience while in use in the field? I've never held or used any of the older M or any M cameras so I'm curious for a honest opinion on the experience of using the Canada made to that of the Germany.

Hi David, I've owned my M4-2 for about eight years now, toyed with trading it for an M4-P but changed my mind. In many respects, the M4-2 gets a bad rap because it wasn't made in Wetzler but up in Midland On. on Georgian Bay. it was put into production because the M5 to charitable wasn't well loved by M mount Leica fans, they weren't making any money with Leicaflexes and that's when the partnership with Minolta came into play but that's the subject for another post.

The M4-2 was in many respects the camera that saved Leica. It was only available in black and Leitz re-worked some of the inner mechanicals for ease of manufacturing and save on cost. Early examples were known to be temperamental but got ironed out quickly and became a reliable camera. I like my M4-2, it's been with me hiking, traveling, wandering around the city.

If you can find a decent example, I'd get one.

You seem to be documenting the area in Toronto known as the Beaches. Great place. The first pic, which I think is part of the water treatment plant is often used as a movie set depicting a prison.
The "Good Food" restaurant often has some letters burned out and is known locally as "The Goof"

With a daughter at university in Montreal, I've been fortunate to visit a couple of times. Here are a few city landscapes taken with my M4-2 and ELC lenses from my trip this past summer. Claire has since graduated and moved to Toronto. Perhaps the Canadian Leica crowd should plan a photo walk and I try to join in.

I know the area well, my brother moved to the Beaches back in 2002 and never left. I've know the neighbourhoood longer due to friends living there off and on since the late 1980s. Shooting the "Goof" sign is something I always do when I'm in the neighbourhood. In some ways it's a great way to test cameras and film.

I was going to submit it for lens culture bw contest, but after reading contest rules I realized they don't want it. Every other contest have rules to rule out photos like this.
