Guys, I need some help,

after having completely kicked off windows from my Work and Personal PC's, I am now struggling to use my scanner Minolta 5400 with Vuescan.

It is present under the Device Manager, but Vuescan seems not to see it, and always tells me there is no scanner connected.

I know that Kernel 2.6 is missing the scanner module, should I run 2.4 then ???

Thanks for your help. Note that I am not lik-nked with Vuescan in any way so if you know another software that would do the job I can take it (even if it is a command line tool for example)

Thanks in advance,

If the kernel is missing something, you probably need to download the matching kernel source, configure the correct build options, build and install.

Or maybe there's an optional package with the right kernel loadable module to provide the scanner support.

I'd say it would be easier to figure out how to make The Gimp work first (image editor widely used on Linux), just because there will be more web pages about it. Once it works, VueScan probably will as well. VueScan didn't invent a new way to talk to scanners in Linux, that's for sure, they would travel an existing path.
