Hi Alan,

how does it look ? What filter thread size, and does it have a built-in hood ?

It cann't be 38xxxx. Maybe one more digit ? Then its built 1998 or later. So its the new version and US 1000 is a "normal", even good price if it's mint.

Roland.

You're correct it is 397xxxx. I don't have it in my hands yet. I ordered it from Tamarkin. It should come today . It's definitey as you described. Mint according to Eric at Tamarkin.

I feel better🙂

Mike: I am not sure what version of 90 Summicron I had (I do know it was f2) back in the early 80s; maybe it was older, but holy cow it was a good lens and for $205, as they say in the Dr. Scholls ads here in the US, "You're Gellin'". My favourite casual portrait was made with the 90 and Kodachrome.

Congrats and burn some film, baby ... Kodachrome if ya got it!

Here's mine!

And a sample of what I bought it for

Another edit to add: this is the lens with the scary chips in one of the front elements - looks like it was pulled apart for cleaning then dropped. Doesn't seem to effect the images much.

Here is one from about two weeks ago, it was just quick one to see how much detail I could get in the hair. If you click on my name and look at previous posts, you will find some images from Daniel (dlridings ) taken with his 90. So far I have found it to be the lens I have on my camera, more than my 40 Nokton.

Tamarkin is a good retailer, I bought my M6ttl from them. I am sure the price is fair considering the piece of mind you get from dealing with a good dealer.

Thanks everyone for the great input! what I have seen of everyones samples makes me VERY happy with the purchase. I will report back when the lens arrives. should be in a couple days! Mike

It is from 12/2003. At least that's the date filled in by the former owner from Gautier NJ. It is, or course the modern, compact model.

I would challenge anyone to distinguish this from new out of the box. It has everything including the hang tag on the case. It literally looks as if it were never used.

I'm very pleased.

And, you're right , so far I am very pleased with Tamarkin. Eric has been great and patient with a newbie's questions. Of course, I did spend a few thousand with him>🙂

Like Rover said, Tamarkin has a very good name.

I don't have the most recent lens serial numbers (my list only goes to 2000), but am sure your lens is built in the 2000s, probably 2002/3 or even newer.
It's supposed to be a great and compact lens, congratulations !

Let us see some photos when you get to use it 😉

Roland.

Photos will be forthcoming. It is from 12/2003 as I said in my other reply. You're dead on your dates.

Thanks again.
