I've got a line on an M2.
This would be perfect because it has the 35mm frameline 🙂 (thanks a lot Guy!!!)

Now.. it's missing some vulcanite at the bottom of the mount and it's a bit scuffed on the top and bottom but overall it's in good condition. The finder is bright and clear (not as bright as Guy's 😀) and the speeds are on. The shutter sounds good and speeds seem to match my M3.

Out of curiosity, what would be a decent "price" for this body. The seller seems to think it's worth a LOT more than I believe it is worth but I want to make a fair offer on it.

I've checked Ebay's previously sold bodies and they range in price from $400 USD up to $750 USD so it's not a "small" range.

Just curious,
Dave

I've seen them go for basically the same as M3's.. so your price range is exactly what I would have said.. of course you know the vulcanite can be replaced really cheap.. the scuffs are more a personal issue.. if there are no dents or obvious sign of abuse, I'd say it's probably worth around $600.. give or take $50.. on the high end, I'd probably put it at $700, but that's pushing it

Dave, with a camera that age, it simply needs a cla even if the speeds sound okay. If it has had a cla in the past 5 years, then it will be okay for another 20 years or so. So, factor in the cost of a cla if it hasn't had one in a while. Recently an M2 was advertized on PhotoNet, recent cla, in user shape, delivered for $600.

Thanks guys.. that's what I figured too.. I'll make the seller a fair offer.. maybe $650 USD and see if that's palatable; if not, I'll let it slide.

Cheers
Dave

Maybe I should bide my time and wait for one here... hmmm... just that now that I have that 35mm 1.2, I really want to be able to focus to the 0.7 m mark and the M3 can't do it (because it's got the 50mm frameline)

Dave

I got mine a couple of months back, missing only a tiny bit of vulcanite near the baseplate for 500. Shutter times are good, the odd bright spot and the tiniest amount of oxidation on the shoe. One slight ding near the film counter as well. I've noticed that the prices were up and down for users when I was first looking to buy one.

I am going to have to go and fondle my Canon P for a little while.

I don't need and M2, I don't need an M2, I don't need and M2, I don't need an M2,.............

I paid 400 for mine, and the slower speeds are off, but it hasn't kept sme from using it twice as much as my m3. I love the framelines. Mine also has some seperation, and can flare in low light, so ask about that if you are using the 1.2

Hi Dave,
Sorry to have caused you to need yet another great camera, but the 35 framelines are nice, eh? They're the reason I looked for an M2 over an M3. When I first went out for an afternoon to take photos with the M2 & the Elmar (old 50mm f2.8), I realized I had to have a 35 because of those framelines. GAS attack #1. Have spent the last couple of days with the result of my last GAS attack, the last one I can afford for a while, an 85 f2 Nikkor, which is supposed to be easier to focus with your M3. Fortunately, I seem to be doing ok with it on the M2. Now if I can get some decent shots instead of demonstrating how sharp it is, I'll post some.
Let us know how you made out.

Guy
