A friend inadvertently (probably) adjusted the shutter speed dial without cocking the shutter, and it is now all frozen ! the shutter is stuck, as is the winder, and the shutter speed dial moves freely even without lifting. Is there an easy way to get it unstuck ? Otherwise it may have to go for a CLA. Or should I gat some tools and try the DIY ? (Never done it before but did stay at the Holiday....)

There are more possibilities... maybe only the top of the dial is spinning and tightening of the tiny screws around the perimeter of the dial might help it. In the worst case the pin which actually sets the speed is broken and your camera will need this part replaced...

Gey yourself a set of watchmaker's screwdrivers and follow the sticky thread in the FSU section about Zorki 4 disassembly. Hopefully you will only need to open the top cover and you'll find what's wrong with it... there is not much to mess up (except the flash sync advance which is around the shutter speed dial).

Hey Freeranger, I think somebody might have hi-jacked your post. All I get is a bunch of ads for 'sexy' singles???

If the dial spins freely then it's likely that the two small grub screws in the periphery are loose. Once you've tightened them you should be able to lift and turn.

Safest way to "unfreeze" the mechanism is to lift and turn it as far clockwise as possible, which will set it to 1/30. Now wind on but do it VERY gently, if there's ANY unusual reistance STOP and don't wind it further. Now you should be able to trip the shutter and after that it should be back to normal.

Whatever you do, don't force anything or you'll probably break something. The sticky "Zorki 4K - HOW TO - CLA" will show you how to remove the top cover, should you feel adventurous, if it's not resolved as above.
