Just wanted to share some photos from yesterday`s Retro Ad shoot I did with a model who jumped at the chance to do my last minute shoot based on the 1946 Ernst Leitz NYC Leica IIIC sales brochure, it was last minute while I sold the IIIC to Ca. last week and now the Summitar and the General`s Hektor and Viooh finder will also go West in a Canon IIF 2 w/rapidwinder camera trade

The shoot was great fun, Angela Lynne drove 3 hours to work with me (bless her!) and had her hair styled just right and makeup all done, she wore a vintage babydoll nightie in bare feet as we shot across the street from the apartments in the "doctors" front lawn

I`ll be adding more photos here from the session as I go along, we shot work in 3 different media`s, digital, blk n wht real film (loaded in my "Half Race" IIIC with the f1.5 Canon) and color crossprocessed slide in my Canon F-1

The new picture is a bit more contrasty, but that may be because the 1946 one would have been screened and then printed on paper with ink. Fine work.
 
I think the original might be a studio shot. The tree without leaves doesn't match the summer dress of the woman, but looks like a studio prop. And the reflection in the lens and the eyes suggests a single big light source. That light source could be the sun, but is a lot different from the much more complex reflections in the lens and eyes on the new picture.

The 1947 shot is definitely a studio shot.

I like the remake. Might be a bit more 1950s shot, though. 🙂

I can`t wait to see what the Color crossprocessing slide will do, it`s the FIRST time that I ever shot it with my Canon F-1
(I always shot it with my M6 - but now she`s Leo`s baby now)

...maybe I should be really daring and put a roll of "CP" through the IIIC K with the original uncoated lens? - now thats an idea 🙂

PS: Angela`s hair really is 1940`s you just can`t see it in this angle, but she has like double curls on the top of her head in the front - I really dig the reflections in the front of the Summitar lens, it`s a beauty "wartime" but postwar coated, it`s got such a beautiful blue glow to it, in color pictures.....

The new one is a nice picture but it gives the most important role to the girl as it shows bigger eyes and ... less from the camera ! I prefer the old version, the old time showing more respect to the Leica....
I hope not too many feminists will feel I am too much macho....😀 😀

Well, I guess I always have to have a negative one in the bunch..... 😛

(I guess I could have had her turn the camera down a bit, but we were in a rush to finish before it would rain, I think that it was all about being faithful to the original really - and I never saw anyone else TRY to reproduce it)
