Espresso, at the Olympia

I actually prefer the Gondola two doors down; but I know how highly Magus rates this photo
:D :D

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

I drink coffee more by habit and necessity. A cup from under espresso machine in the morning to get me on the bus, and a few big tasteless ones from filter (*gasp*) machine in course of workday.

While we're at this, I'd mention that coffee is probably one of very few bad things about Norway. There is no choice, and what on the shelves sucks badly :) Bigger towns have better specialty shops though.

But, I remember even the worst coffee went just fine with cigarettes, back when I was a smoker :)

good old 'nabob full city dark' is my everyday fav.

i also drink esspreso when the mood hits.

coffee shop...tim's (tim horton)

Now that is a beautiful thing...

Peet's Major Dikinson's Blend.

Homemade double cap first thing, and maybe an espresso around 3pm.

Fantastic.

My favorite coffee is typically the one I'm drinking. I don't really have a favorite brand, but I do prefer French, Italian, & Espresso roasts....usually the darker & oilier the bean the better.

I prefer my French Press or my steel percolator (camping), but live with drip coffee here at the office during the week. At least I have the gold filter instead of paper. Espresso is a not-to-often afternoon treat.

One thing I am adamant about is straight black coffee. If you put anything in it, you then have a coffee-flavored drink- not coffee.

I'm fanatic about coffee (I know, I know, but I could have worse habits!). I go to small independent coffee roasters wherever I find them, and I generally buy the darkest, oiliest beans I can find. That said, I'm very partial to Ethiopian Yrgacheffe, even though it's not the darkest out there- but the flavor is incredible. I grind whole beans and use a French style coffee press or make espresso. There's no drip machine in my house, thank you. I tend to buy a lot of coffee from a really nice roaster in Branford Connecticut called Willoughby's (http://www.willoughbyscoffee.com/) They roast some damn fine coffee. There's also a great independent chain here in Louisville called Heine Brothers which is all free-trade coffee, and they roast a fine brew, too. Plus, it's nice to support a good local business- especially one with good politics. (http://www.heinebroscoffee.com/)

Ca phe Cao Nguyen. If it's at home, done with a Vietnamese maker. If at work, then I add a scoop to the scoop of Maxwell House I am forced to suffer to be able to share coffee with an office mate. He comments once in a while about an odd tase and I just suggest he come down first and have it ready for me rather than vice versa. I get to keep making it. :D If for any reason I could not get the ca phe Cao Nguyen then another Vietnamese, or even Cafe Du Monde, although I find that a poor substitute for my personal tastes. One package of artificial sweetener (per my internist).

Only one cup on the advice of my cardiologist. Any more and it has to be Maxwell House decaf in a bag which I find better than instant. In my younger days my cup was not allowed to get empty all day and I had a very large cup.

You know, thinking about it, doctors have taken some pleasure from my life, but I accept it over the consequences for sure. Not their fault.

EDIT: I see many mentioning a french press. I do keep one at work but seldom use it. At home, if my oldest daughter comes to visit early enough so I need two cups, that is what I use. Not at other times as my wife can't stand Vietnamese coffee. It's OK, I still love her.

Mmmmmm....frappé!!! :)

I make it with Alta Rica but prefer Taster's Choice when I can find it.

Nescafe instant, the 8oz tins they sell in Italy and Greece, ice and a drop of cold water…….. in the peasant style for me

Well, it all depends on the day, the mood and the time allotted.

Usually I just push a button on my Saeco Vienna DeLuxe superauto, which yields a consistenly good (not fantastic, but quite decent) shot and make an Americano. Believe it or not, the Eight O'Clock brand french roast works great for this.

I also enjoy using a french presss / press pot; often have one here at work for nice coffee since we're not supposed to have anything electrical plugged in.

For real fun, when I have the time, I bust out the vacuum pot (stainless steel version from the 50s). I think that for non-espresso, it makes the best coffee; has all the flavor of the french press but with the clarity of a drip brewer.

First thing I do in the morning is make a pot of coffee for me and the wife. Cant remember the brand name, but we buy whole bean at Whole Foods. Dark roast. It's gotta have flavor!! Simply black, no ruining the flavor with milk and sugar, nothing i cant stand more. OK, it's lunchtime, off to Starbucks for a hot black coffee...mmm.... I drink about 3-4 cups a day.
