Olympus 35 ECR photos

Now I'm ready with the test roll of my olympus 35 ECR. I think I just have founded a perfect ps camera with manual focus. I like this camera, it's lightweight and you can use it very quickly. (I just edited the size of the photos).

Thanks Payasam. Yes, you are right, the Olympus 35 RC using the atutomata mode is very similar to this tiny ECR.
The yashicas electros are more heavy and the russians are good cameras but without lightmeter. So I just can repeat that I think the Oly ECR is a very easy to use and rapid camera and you can take great pictures.

I got an Olympus 35 ECR, too but haven't taken any photo with my 35ECR, because of its corroded contacts. After seeing your photos, I think I should get the camera ready for a spin! 🙂

Being small & simple is the best thing about 35 ECR. It is even smaller than the zone-focus Trip 35. Furthermore, it's got the look (the whole EC/EC2/ECR series) that stands out from the bunch in the same era.

Thank you Daniel, I like these pictures too. Just an additional info to the pictures: as you can notice I've made the photos in different weather circumtances, so this is the reason for the different sky colours.

The ECR is not just a very good point and shoot camera but I think it is very elegant too. So, I can say that recently the Olympus 35 ECR and the yashica electro 35 GSN are my favourite cameras.

Superbus, nice pictures! welcome to the ECR fan club, not many know about this little gem.

Tthe lens has a different characteristics than the XA. This one is more similar to the Trip 35 with crisp, sharp pictures. I think about it is the Trip with a built in rangefinder.

It is also the heaviest camera with that size. Good thing is, we can use the extra heft to stabilize low-light shooting conditions. Bad thing is, it's heavy after a while 🙂

To sum it up this camera is my summer favourite. Yes, it's heavy but no problem. My zorki 1 is heavy too 🙂
I think the olympus trip seems to be a good camera with very capable lenses too, but the lightmeter can be a weak point of it and this is important for me.

The good thing about the Trip is that it's so cheap, if the meter on one is giving you unsatisfactory results, just get another one 🙂

Not only that, it's also so simple, only two speeds available 1/40 and 1/200.

There are information online that will tell you how to make it stick to one speed only (1/200 is preferable because you can use it with 200ASA film pretty much to shoot anytime using the sunny-16 rule). That way you can then control the aperture for depth of field effects; very cool!

I may try this sometime when I get a chance to snag a cheap one (I'm talking sub $5).
 
I have a ECR that had bad contacts. The fix was simple as the contact points in the battery well were already loose. I took some thin brass plate, used a paper punch to make new contact plates; roughed the bottoms and soldered these to the loose wires. Aluminum foil goes in one well and a pair of air zinc hearing aid batteries in the other and...POOF... a working Oly.

All and all, about a half hours work and that despite my being an absolute spaz at electronics soldering.

I replaced the light seal on the door as it was goo, but that's just about de rigueur for most cameras written about here.

I have yet to run film through this camera but after looking at your pictures Superbus_, I can't wait to put my camera into action!

Since it's on my short list of things to get, does anyone here have a suggestion for an aftermarket lens hood?

Good luck for your reapired ECR. Can't wait to see the results! I found lens hood in a vintage camera shop for a bargain price and I think these places are the best.

Thank you. I hope one time will have an opportunity to visit Montevideo (and Punta del Este) as well, a few of my relatives are living there. 🙂
 
New batteries are 1.5Volt. Have any of you had problems with this different voltage battery affecting the exposure-light meter performance? I just got my ECR running and havent developed any of these shots yet... Thanks for any insight!
 
partee, not if you use the Walgreen/CVS/whatever-pharmacy hearing aid battery. Those are 1.4 volts. Perfect to replace those old mercury batteries, all you need is a rubber ring and sometimes a bit of aluminium foil, or Jon Goodman's new battery adaptor.
