Please help with Push/Pull dev times

Hi guys,

I've been shooting ERA 100 for awhile now, always rated at 100 but today for a change I decided on something different.

I shot two rolls, one rated at ISO 400 and one rated at ISO 50.

Normally I'd develop ERA rated @ 100 for 6 minutes in HC-110.


Any ideas how long I should develop the rolls @ 400 & 50 at?

Did you check the massive dev chart at www.digitaltruth.com for times?

Unfortunately there are very limited entries for ERA 100 so the massive dev chart isn't much help to me - thanks for the suggestion though.

A starting point would be +/-20% per stop, ie 4m50s for EI50 and 8m40 for EI400.

The EI50 roll should be fine but a bit lower contrast than usual. The EI400 roll will be a tough one to print, low shadow detail and high contrast.

If I were you I'd develop it a foot at a time to be able adjust the times and agitation. Good luck!

What Emil said. It definitely works for pulling, In contrasty conditions I'll always shoot to over expose by one stop with 20% less development. A little less agitation helps too if the light was very harsh.

I'm about to develop the 400 roll now so I'll 'dunk' it for 8:40 and see how things turn out. Many thanks for your help. 🙂
