Richard - Thanks. All my post processing is done in Photoshop. I like to keep things simple and just add some grain and play with some curves and add some layers with specific color combinations that I like (lot of green, yellow and brown tones)... The color layers are set to either Multiply, Soft Light or Screen modes... I also add density by way dodging or burning with a brush set to Overlay with an opacity ranging from 5%-10%... that's it.

Erik - Get one, you'll thank me later... Of course, I also ordered an M7 a-la-carte and got my hands on an XPanII, so I am not letting go of my film stuff...

I really like Jessica's work, I am sure she could replicate with the M8

Her blog is always inspiration for my own wedding work which is not quite on her or your (Riccis) level quite yet.

I think what I notice most is that the red channel is very subdued in her work, which accounts for white-ish skin tones, deep yet vivid color contrasts

The way I have found to replicate that is exactly that, bring the red channel down as much as possible without giving the image a color cast ... much hard to do on Nikon's (I'm a Nikon user) as they tend to produce heavier red channels than Canon cameras

I have noticed her 5D shots seems to POP way more than most, I am wondering if she had the AA filter removed ...

Pete - Thanks for your words... I would love to see you work. BTW, I doubt Jessica has had anything removed from her 5D... great post processing skills are very important in creating your own signature look.

I still have alot learning and honing my skills ... but here are a few from a recent wedding

This was before I started incorporating textures (well more of film emulsion profiles and textures); I am currently going through images from a wedding I had this weekend, there will be much more processing involved and some techniques I have developed within the last month

I try to keep things simple... lightroom has helped immensely with that; especially uploading, sorting, and editing the obscene amount of images one can collect through a days worth of shooting a wedding

Admittedly though at this point; I have only done weddings by word of mouth and due to my day (night) job really haven't made any major effort to establish myself.

In the meantime I browse the different blogs such as yours, Jessica's and Jesh de Rox's getting different ideas trying to get my technique down to keep PP down to a minimum
 
Riccis: Are any of the professional wedding photog associations of help for a person just starting to get into the biz?

I too am trying to break out into the wedding photography business. I've been doing wedding videography for the past 4 years and I want to get out because the time investment needed for video projects are simply too much.

Associations such as PPA or WPPI are great for information on running your business, liability insurance, etc... and for attending their seminars during the major conventions such as WPPI in Vegas, but like I stated before the Digital Wedding Forum (http://www.digitalweddingforum.com/) is highly recommended. I am a member there along with 4000 other including top industry talents such as Buissink, the Bebbs, Jessica Claire, Beckstead, ecker, Yervant, and many more...

BTW, I am coming to Chicago for next weekend's wedding, so if you have a few minutes we can get together and chat over coffee.

Wow, 100% M8! How has the transition been? Do you find yourself 'missing' any moments without AF? I really admire this decision, each shutter press must really be thought out. Congrats, and great work!

I slowly transitioned to the M8 before going all the way.

I was never a machine gun shooter and have pretty decent MF skills (actually I used the Canon tilt and shift lenses before which are manual focus only without any problems and manual focusing in the DSLR is harder than in a rangefinder, IMHO)
