There is a kiss-in celebration today in Times Square commemorating the 60th anniversary of VJ day and the famous Alfred Eisenstaedt photo of the Kiss that Ended WWII. The Kiss-In starts at 1:00 PM in Times Square. This is the place to be in NYC today, and it is a lovely day. See you there!

I went. It was great. Lots of media people and phtographers. First time I've ever been in a scrum with them. It helps to be tall and heavy, but there was one lightweight young thang who not only held her own but was out in front blocking everyone - me included. I brought an Xpan to try to capture the scope of the whole thing, but it's tough to use in a crowd since it takes in so much of the side-lines. I saw a couple of M6 shooters, too, mostly "older" like me. All of the pro media were shooting dSLRs. Can't post pics now, since I only shot film. Will show the best when it returns.

I just got my shots from this event back from Dwayne's. I decided to shoot KR-64 with an Xpan. Not the best choice of film since it was a bright and sunny day with high contrast, just exagerated completely by the Kodachrome. This couple stole the show: A US Army reservist just back from Afghanistan with his beautiful girl friend dressed in a '40s era outfit. He proposed to her on his knees in the middle of the kiss-in and the media went wild, as you can see here by all of the cameras. More later.

Nice, but can you make them 1200 pixels wide? Too small!

What a great idea. Leave me out though, I haven't fit in my dress blues for 50 years and my dog chewed up my whitehat.

Yes, well, that is the penalty of using a panoramic format camera in a scrum with 30 other photojournalists who are much taller and heavier than I. I was lucky to be able to hold the camera over my head and get a few shots with the subjects in them. Next time - no panoramic format. I thought it would be an interesting experiment. It was - I leaned it's not such a good subject for panormaic photography. Although, I do think the photos have a bit of interest because they include the mounds of photographers trying to shoot the scene.
