... from being a camera geek, to become a photographer.

Through shooting countless test-rolls, I started to realize that I am doing this for the long haul. I really like photography. I think I finally found my "zone". Where I can keep improving myself without being bored or overwhelmed.

The important bonus? My family supports me 🙂

I wrote some time ago that I have no longer GAS for Leica. But I did leave the door open if I can get one that I can afford with the fund I saved and/or generated through photography.

Well, I finally got one.

NOTE: Although I am going to talk about it, this post is not *about* the Leica, it is about a guy who is now ready to take on photography, seriously.

Thanks to Bill and Tom (both RFFers), I now have in my posession a "working-man's" Leica. I'll talk about the technical details and reviews in another post.

All I need to say is that this Leica combo is not expensive by any Leica standard (some wouldn't even call it a "real" Leica even though it has the genuine Red Dot), it's certainly less than a typical DSLR setup.

But when I saw the results from this setup. It's astounding. I mentioned that I've seen real talented photographers producing images better than others with a Leica.

Well, I can't compare the results from this Leica to any of *my* other photos. It is that good, and that's good enough for me.

I often heard that once you've dipped into the Leica pool, you'll be attacked by relentless Leica GAS that will soon breed multiple expensive glasses and bodies. Strangely I don't see that happening ...

Because it is *that* good, I no longer have a yearning to try out the other bodies/lenses/attachments/etc. I am in a sense ... done.

This Leica for me is more significant as a turning point, rather than an achievement. A point where my view on photography took a more serious turn. Where I no longer derive satisfaction from getting yet another camera/lenses and "playing" with it. Where I start my path to become a good photographer one day.

You guys will still see me posting reviews of interesting cameras that I got now and then, but that will no longer be the main reason I "do" photography. It will be just for fun.

And who knows in the end, there will be only the Leica, the OM-1 and a couple of Zuiko lenses with me. And by the looks of it. I'll be fine 🙂

And finally, and most importantly, THANK YOU all for accompanying me up to this point 😀

Will

Congratulations, sounds like you made a good choice.

I'm exactly the same. My M6/Summicron 50 combo has killed Leica GAS for me, not because I don't like it, but because it does exactly what I want from a 35mm RF.

Well, congratulations, I had/have so many lenses for various cameras that it finally hit me that some of the inconsistent results were because of the way different lenses produce an image. When I finally decided to stick with one lens and one, well, two bodies, did I start to fine tune my results. (I might add one meter and one/two films, too.) I wish you the best, but you will be working on your process for the rest of you life.

I would like a modern 50mm for my M2, but it's not an urgent want of mine. GAS has come in all other formats instead! I've been 'done' as far as 35mm cameras has been concerned for months now 🙂

I think a leica is a camera for somebody who can make good photos with it. So, your experience with other rangefinders was a good education for you to become a good photographer, so most important is always the person behind the camera.
I hope you will enjoy your leica and share with us the results.
