I like both of them...the first one you could have cropped (in camera) the two post on the upper right corner...I like the shaft of light in the first one too.
The heavy shadows in the second shot also work for me but might have waited for the subjects to get closer to the camera...
Good stuff...good eye...

Assaf- your Early morning in Jeruselem is wonderfully done.

I really like the 35 mm perspective on these shots. I agree with Frank that cropping as he suggested would help the 2nd one, it's already a great shot but that would make it greater. What film did you use? I have the Ultron 1.7 in 35 also but have not tried B&W but will do now for sure. Thanks.

Great shots! And I agree on the cropping.

Well, I also agree on the cropping 🙄
But I don't crop pictures after they are taken....
I should have gotten closer to the action in the second pic
Next time... It only takes about an hour to get to Jerusalem....

Thank you all for the warm feedback
Mr. Monk - I used TriX film.
Regarding the Ultron - I got it a week ago and shot a few rolls.
However, all pictures were taken in low light conditions (slow handheld exposure, wide open lens) or very strong light - f16.
Not really surprisingly - almost none of the pictures came out sharp.

I want to be sure that the lens is OK and going to run a test roll tomorrow - any advices? Is there really a chance for lemons in these lenses?

Nice shots. It is the first one that I find most attractive.

Assaf, you have some of the most contrasty light that is imaginable in the Old Town of Jerusalem! Great shots under tough light condition!
For testing the 1.7 - find some old stone wall (plenty around) and shot a series of shots at different exposures, with the camera solidly planted on a tripod or another stonewall.
I find the 35f1.7 very sharp and a bit contrasty. I dont use mine that often (have lots of other 35's) and I find the ergonomic of the lens a bit clumsy.

Great shots!
I have said it before and I'll say it again - Israel is a superbly beautiful country and it's such a pleasure to photograph it. Every time I see photos from there - I miss it so much. Please post moreeeeeee.

Assaf, hope you don't mind that I played with your second photo. Here's how I would crop it. (If you find it offensive that I've done this, please let me know and I'll delete this post.)

Frank, not offended at all!
Actually I find it flattering that you find it interesting enough to play with 🙂

Your cut is interesting since it's assymetric and it gives a sense of diagonal motion. I think that would have been an interesting point of view of someone who uses 50mm.

However, I like the original better, though I think I should have gotten a bit closer to the action and cropped 10%-20% from the borders.
This shot was taken almost while walking... next time I'll be more patient...

Krosya - thanks, I'll post more

Jerusalem

Jerusalem

Having never been there (my father was there in the mid-seventies) I nontheless have always felt an affinity to it.

My favorite book on it is by Rodney Smith. It is titled 'In the Land of Light'. Every photographer that loves black and white should have a copy of this book.

I love the first image with the light and shadows. Beautiful.

The posted images are beautiful and story telling.
I wish that one day I can visit Jerusalem.
It is a very special city, as you know.

the pictures were indeed scanned directly from the negatives using an Epson V-700 scanner.

I think these special rays of light are there almost every morning. I really should get back and take more pictures.

If any of you comes to Israel I'll be happy to meet

Yes, please take more photos - I can't wait to see more. I'd love to visit Israel again, but not sure how soon i'll be able to do so. But I'm sure I will some day.
Meanwhile - looking forward to your photos!
