The score on the 28-48 and the 35-70/2.8 is correct. Beware, though ... the 35-70/2.8 is definitely not cheap on the used market. Other Zuiko zooms can be quite good, but not in the territory of those two or primes. I have not used the 75-150, so can't comment, but what I've read/seen tells me it is very good, though not stellar.
I have a Tokina 70-150/f4 zoom in OM mount that I bought through Cambridge ages ago. It was a "special" production, I've never been able to find anything written about it. It is very sharp and was a steal for the price. But, I don't use it often as I'm generally reaching for primes.

The other Zuiko zoom you might look at is the 35-70/3.5~4.5. Zuiko (and some 3rd party OM mount) lens tests are here,with the usual disclaimer about numbers not telling the whole story.

Hi nobbylon,

There are few cameras that among the wide RFF neighbourhood there will be not a lot of funs claiming it is the best. But in order for me to answer your question you could help by telling a bit about your cameras history.

In my case, I started with the OM system as my backbone. But after becoming a bit knowledgeable about range-finders, I cannot stand any more the slap in the face nor the noise of my OMs. And they are the quietest among SLRs.
Nevertheless I keep my full armoury, as there is no RF giving the flexibility of this system.

Finnally, GAS and OM is the worst marriage. You are going to feed an unendless amount of babies.

I've been also reading stories here in past months about how great OM-system is, but do you really

1) want to invest to dead end system (zuiko's are discontinued).

2) want to invest just another camera & lens system, instead of using your current ones, perhaps extending ?

except that i'm not using them at all.

another good idea gone by the wayside.

i only have so much time to shoot and i always pick up an rf.
the 180 was a 'dream' lens but i seem to have lost that dream.

maybe if i were still shooting stage stuff or something that required a longer lens...

1) Yes, while it may be discoutinued, there are several good repair folks out there who can fix many of the issues with the bodies. Over the past year or so I have rebuilt my SLR system around a Nikon F2. I know that the F2 will last me my lifetime and it doesn't, there are lots out there.

2) If there is a dramatic difference between where you are and where you are going, why not? Moving from a Nikon F3 or a Canon F1n, that I would question. But going from a large body and lens system (e.g. Nikon or Canon) to a small system (e.g. Olympus OM) why not? If you want (or need) 100% full frame viewfinder and you only have say a Minolta system, you have no choice.

I have a small OM system that I've build. An OM-1, a 28/2.8, 85/2 and a 200/5 and love it. It weighs almost nothing compaird to my F2. I'm going to sell my 35/2.8 and Vivitar Series-1 70-210 zoom as I want to minimize.

The OM system is a world class system (bodies and lenses) that is very different from almost every other system that was out at the time.

Perhaps best of all, the OM system is just FUN.

It's hard to say. Do you really not see yourself ever wanting to do anything that an SLR is good for? If there's any chance you'll need to shoot a long lens or a macro, then just store it in a nice place. If nothing else, keep it out on a shelf in your favorite room in your house so you can at least enjoy it's aesthetics. It's kind of like a gun - it's better to own it and not need it rather than the opposite 😱
