Attractive pictures and some tricky metering ! Depressing to say that there is more graffiti there, than even in the not-so-nice bits of Brussels.

I left a comment for a particularly nice street scene in your photonet folder gallery.

Martin,

I set the camera most of the time on 1/15 and the lens wide open.
Here,it was often the Canon 35mm/1.8. Film used was often ASA400 Portra VC and sometimes a leftover from the sunny afternoons, a Portra 160 NC or VC.

Graffiti was impossible to ignore; it was there ....

Thanks.

Hi Raid, I would certainly not suggest that the graffiti should be ignored ! Clearly it is the visual backdrop for the areas you were visiting :-/ It might be a problem if your visit was commissioned by the Portugese tourist board though !

Somehow I had the impression that poor old Brussels (which I visit regularly) was "messy", but when I think of my hometown in the UK and now of Lisbon perhaps it is not so bad. When I do visit the UK from time to time it feels strange and a bit disappointingly deteriorated, compared to what I remember from when I lived there, maybe due to the naturally selective memory effect. More recently, even Cairo seemed quite comfortable to be in, very strange.

EDIT: To other readers, Raids link to the other pics is worth a click...

Thanks, Martin.
I am sure that Lisbon has its cleaner and richer areas, but I was more interested in seeing the narrow roads with people enjoying music and drinks.

Love the photographs. For a second, I thought I saw a cousin of mine in the first photograph. Lisbon streets are full of life and I love the lighting found on Portuguese cities at night. The photographs reminds me the summers spent in Portugal while in my late teens and early 20's. Rarely did I go to bed before dawn. Os meus verde anos.

It was a very relaxed atmosphere at dinner time. I wish my wife had been with me on the trip to enjoy with me Lisbon.

People just sat outside little restaurants in the narrow roads and they had dinner outdoors. You could hear Fado music from a distance, which adedd to this special atmosphere.

Nando,
Once I took photos in Amsterdam, and a RFF member identified himself in one of them!

In this case, I wouldn't want to see my cousin in that photo, not that there is anything wrong with that. :)

Hi Raid,

My wife and I were in Lisbon last year at this time. We ate in the outdoor restaraunt in the last picture of this particular post.

Lovely images btw. Wish I was still there.

Cheers,

Keith

Keith: This is great! I will show my wife this image. It really is a wonderful place to visit.

Raid,

Beautiful pics. I especially enjoy the two street/restaurant scenes. I'll have a look at the pnet collection when I get home (work doesn't like pnet!) Funny about the grafitti, I just wouldn't have expected it. I wonder who/what Miks is?

Thanks, Michel. Your question about "Miks" made me think for a while, until I scrolled up and saw the image. I don't know who/what Miks is. :D

Hi Raid,
glad to see you had good time in Lisbon with the other RFf fellows. You also got some very nice photos, my favourites are the first and last among the ones you posted here. The third one made me think as Keith ...
Ciao :)

Hello Nico,
Thanks. The RFF members is Lisbon made the visit a better one for me by their guidance. The friendship was immediate, and this is what makes photography so great. It brings people together.

I wonder whether removing the color from the photo you have uploaded [above] would give a better photo or not. The orange tone is very strong in it.

Thank you, Keith. Here, I used the Elmar 50mm/3.5 (old one) and the CV 25mm/4 with also the use of the Fuji Natura with its 24mm/1.9 lens.
