Hi folks,
I just got a nice 35mm lux ASPH for my new M8 and am loving it so far. One thing that wasn't clear to me before i got it (and to be frank i'm astounded that leica let it release in this state) but i'm a bit miffed that i can't get the lens cap on whilst its got the hood on the end of the lens.
Has anyone any experience with trying some other brand of lens cap that will manage the 1-2mm clearance needed over the official cap to be able to then protect the lens whilst still wearing the hood.
Cheers
Jim

Hello Jim,
Presumably you didn't get the black rectangular slide-on cover /cap that fits over the hood?
David
PS this cover (in my experience) isn't particularly secure & i tend just to use the hood on its own.

no.. i've not been able to figure out the exact age but its certainly newer than 2001-2002. It doesn't have the cap for the hood and the standard lens hood can't quite fit inside the hood to get on the lens.. A very silly design i think.
I'd just love to be able to get some type of cover on there if possible.

It's only supposed to work two ways: hood on + rectangular cap, or hood off and circular cap.

i have no rectangular cap, can you get ones for it? I am not sure but i think the hood has holes in it so its not exactly sealed with the hood cap on surely?

as in, is the hood on slightly older lenses the same as the current one, so that it will accept the newer hoods if they are available?

Are you sure this is not what you are looking for?

Is the hood you have a rectangular hood or a round hood that's vented (has three slots cut into the rear so you can "see through" the hood)?
I believe your lens was shipped with a rectangular hood. That would use the cap in the post above, which fits on the front of the hood.
If you have a round hood, I believe it's not what shipped with the lens but it should work fine. The standard lens cap that fits without the shade mounted will NOT work when the shade is attached. Leica made a separate cap that fits on the shade when it is reversed on the lens (i.e., fits on the back of the hood when it's facing forward).

well this is the lens

its rectangular, but as you can see it has a hole in the back of it, making it vented in a way.
That cap could be it, its just that it says its for an f2.0 lens, surely it'd like the lux as well if it fits that?
Thanks guys.

I don't think so, the f2 lens would have a smaller hood.jimbobuk said:well this is the lens

There will be a Leica part nr on the hood likely 5 digits long. Google that with a couple of key words like hood, cap, whatever, and you will find the part nr for the cap. The part nr of the f2 cap is 11879 (from the Popflash page) so the part nr you get should be different. If it is not then you know you can buy the Popflash cap. If it is different do another search and you will find a seller.
