M4 camera case from KEH

Just received the M4 case for my M2 but it doesn't look like the top separates from the bottom, it's all one case. I was hoping to use it as a half case but it seems I'll have to have some surgery done at my shoe repair shop. The case fits perfectly and is black and in excellent shape. Any other thoughts? TIA.

Is this the black one with the sort of trapezoidal top? (Sorry if that's the wrong word, I flunked math all the way through high school.) If so, what is required is a FIRM push upwards. The top should be secured by a snap-like fitting on the top piece that slides downwards into (and therefore upwards out of) a nylon figure-8-like fitting on the bottom/back part.
