Beware of Claws
If you have time, please take a look at my first roll with my new M7 Starter Kit.

I bought it from Tony Rose, who is tops, really a pleasure to deal with. It's exciting for me as I've never owned a Leica before, either camera or lens.
The occasion was a dress-up Renaissance Faire in Golden Gate Park. People were very willing to pose, which I found refreshing. The automatic exposure helped me to get the picture without too much delay. I could concentrate on focusing.
Cheers,
Michael

Film is the other way
Michael, I like the results. Is this camera in "pass the camera"?

Interesting photos! I was visiting San Francisco during the Renaissance fair! That's the same week I got my Leica M3.
Unfortunately though It's also the same week my light meter was stolen. Hah.

There nice, just a little point-n-shoot for my taste.

A rangefinder is a glorified point and shoot

You're off to a good start, Michael. You'll now have to start planning for the addition of a 70mm and a 90mm for those tight shots. Oh, and definitely a 35mm. Man, you're hooked.
What film did you use?

Judging by the pictures, this cannot be your first camera.
I think it says first Leica, not necessarily first camera...

I love Renaissance Fairs, missed the one in Texas this year (doh!).
I just wish you had shot a second roll with color film.

Hi
Nicely exposed images. You say you could work on focusing. There is nothing wrong with the focusing. You might think about working on composition. It looks like you are composing with the subject slap bang in the middle on the rangefinder spot. The next move is to focus and move the subject around the frame a bit. When you can do that its time to get some candid expressions more interesting angles and less posed. Very good first roll. The first time i tried an M6 the results were so awfull that it was about 2 years before I had another go. Enjoy your new M7. Oh and dont forget to use manual exposure once in a while.

I concur about working with the composition, which would be the icing on the cake, but mostly I have to say "Great Work"!
It looks like you had a great time.

Michael,
Great first roll. The exposure meter in the camera is spot on. Next step is to look up some of the different approaches to composition (rule of 3rd, etc.) and give them a go. Ever so often you focus seems off, best thing for this is practice and review (same as composition).
The M7 is a wonderful camera, best way to keep her happy is to use her. Keep sharing your stuff.

I concur with everything said here, and would like to add one more. Try some old glass on that M7. Maybe an old Elmar F3.5 or a collapsible 'cron. You'll be amazed at the results. Check the poll here about "Best 50mm M lens for black & white." I was really glad to see that nearly half agreed with me about the rigid or dual-range Summicron! Try it. You'll like it!

Exactly, digitalintrigue: first Leica, perhaps, but evidently not first camera.
