Reversal/inversion free or shareware?

Copying my film negs via digicam has worked out well, so far that is. I'm hung up as the two basic photo programs I own don't have a negative to positive inversion function, though.

Does anyone have knowledge of a downloadable program that will accomplish this?

I use GIMP for most of my editing. Works well and is freeware.

I use GIMP too, but I find paint.net more intuitive. Both are recommended by techsupportalert.com, which is my no.1 trusted site for free software recommendations.

For paint.net, you'll need to be on XP service pack 2 or later, though, with the MS .net framework installed (it very likely already is). Its tabbed interface for opened images is very useful.

Never hurts to have a suite of free software, though.

I've not looked at paint.net since I got my new laptop; it didn't work well with my last computer but I'll look at it again.
I agree about the techsupportalert.com site. Lots of good stuff there!
I also use Faststone(http://www.faststone.org/index.htm) another free photo editor program. A little more basic than GIMP but I like its interface and for stuff like a quick re-size for web posting/email, it works well.

Rob, snap! Yes, I've got FastStone running right now. (Most of these programs seem so much better than commercial stuff, perhaps because they're designed by people who use them, and not sold by people who want them to have memory-intensive whizzy features that look cool in an advert . You know, when you accidentally right click on "Resize all pictures in folder into a musical slideshow and send to everyone in my address book"....)

Jo, it'll work with Vista, too.

The oldversion site will probably find an older version for anyone on ME, 98, etc.

FastStone's site didn't describe the feature I'm looking for (which is reversing negs), but I should assume that when downloaded & installed it'll do that?

Will boot up computer that has it on and check for you.

Definitely there, Jo. Adjustments > Invert Colors, or Ctrl + Shift + I.

Yes it will. Very straight forward; in the "edit" drop down menu there is a button(?) "negative" and it will invert the colors of your selected image or images.
IC or Cornell? I'm actually at Raquette Lake right now cooking for SUNY Cortland. I suppose I should've changed my location.

Try Photofiltre it is very similar to Photoshop elements 2,it is one of the better FREE photo editors,be sure to also download the histogram plugin so you can adjust the tonailty right on, to do what you what use the adjust tab, then positive;

Irfanview is a very simple and basic picture editing/viewing tool that's free and easy to use. It offers reversal of negs.

I guess if you scan colour negatives you want a little more features than just plain inversion; since the negative itself is orange-coloured due to the coloured film base, you get a blue tint on the image. This page illustrates some easy correction steps; there's a number of similar guides on the web.

Thanks All! Guess I'll cut down on the hard drive free space and try a couple of different ones....a very nice option, thanks again.

Cornell (High above Cayuga's waters, there's an awful smell. There are some that say Cayuga, others say Cor.....).

Raquette Lake, great time of year for that! Ran the Raquette River this spring...one of my favorite areas! You're SO lucky to live in the neighborhood!
