I am in heaven!

I just received a Yashica GSN which was practically new in box (with styro-foam). The box SN matches the camera, the battery box is still in, the strap is still wrapped and the hot shoe and sync both have their covers. It even smells new (in an oldish sort of way)

I ordered Yashica Guys's adapter but also bought a 6V 28L (with spring) and it came to joyful life. Lights work, batter button fine, exposure meter is lovely. Its so nice I'm almost afraid to handle it.

Running a nice roll of Fuji B&W through it as we speak - I think i'M gonna cry.

It does, however, need new light seals (yuck).

Good luck - cool looking cameras, ain't they? In a so retro as to be beyond retro-cool, full circle to being straight-up in and of itself cool again...

Oh, and they take great pics... Enjoy 'er!

I got a GSN the same way you did except without the box. Mine is in mint condition, even the case is mint. I got the adapter from Yashica guy and it's great. My light seals had turned to goo and I got the kit from interslice on ebay and putting in the new seals was so easy. I think I love this camera more than my ql17glll and I hate saying that because I love my Canons.😱 I just hope Nick Trop doesn't read this post.😉

If you decide to check my gallery, 40 percent of it is GSN. It's a fine camera and I don't know what Nick is talking about ... retro.. (j/k/h)


Light seal kits are available from Jon Goodman, one of the RFF members for a very reasonable price. Don't forget to post some images. I think you'll be knocked out.

I agree with Jan. I have other very good rangefinders but my Yashica GSN is my basic camera!

I really love this GSN - its so . . . full of personality!

I am way into digital (20D, 24-70L, etc. etc.) but I love these classic cameras. My black body AE-1 is very jealous of the GSN right now.

I seem to be on a serious collecting binge lately but must stop - it somehow feels wrong to have a camera and not use it as it was meant to be. Right now, in addition to the GSN, I have:

- Retina IIa (2 of these one with amazing cosmetics and dead shutter and one with amazing shutter and bad cosmetics)

- Yashica, Lynx 5000 (sticky shutter, but what a bright rangefinder;

- EXA IIb (great but lagging curtain at 1/250);

- Asahi Pentax K1000;

- Canon AE-1 (2 of these - one gas the AE-1 squeak pretty bad);

- Petri 7s II

- Argus C4 (plus oodles of accessories)

- EXA (ver. 4)

I swear that as soon as I get my mitts on a nice GTN, I'll stop. Really, I will 🙂

Cus, I think the majority of forum members have same ideas. Where to stop buying rf cameras... But you can buy great cameras at a bargain price so why stop it??? 🙂
For example my RF collection:
zorki 1, zorki 4, zorki 4k, Yashica electro 35 GSN (2), Konica C35, Olympus 35 RC, 35 Olympus ECR. I have slr's and ps cameras as well.
And I need more...

I promised some pics from my new GSN and here are an awful few. The camera is great (seems oversaturated) but I will be running predominantly B&W throught it anyway (I really like Fuji's Acros 100 - anybody used it?).

I will also have some B&Ws from the GSN up by tomorrow (again with junky Kodak 400 C-41 film - cuz I'm cheap - I'll drop the $ for the acros and developing though as I get the feel for the GSN).

I looked at your gallery of GSN photos and I think the results are excellent. The do not look overexposed or over saturated to me, however, some of the Fuji Superia film is strong in that regard. You could get a CD made and work with saturation and such in a photoshop like program to suit you taste. It's not the camera! It is an issue with the film and processing.

I use a Yashica Electro GT. Show your B/W photos when ready. Have fun.

Okay - here they are - I think, again, that they are a touch over-exposed (I must have taste for darker shades).

Since these are test photos, they are of nothing in particular (though i did get the eye sparke in my son's eyes pretty good). Its my favorite and is shown here.

I think the big limiting factor is the processing - you get what you pay for. Here's teh whole roll (pretty much) :

I am using a 2X vivitar yellow filter and thus have halved the iso via the dial from 400 to 200. I'll try 225 on the dial for the next roll (same film) Thanks for looking and your patence.
