Hi,
I have a question re a possible purchase of a vintage Nikon S3 with 5cm/1.5 lens in good condition, fully working and small dents. The shutter is ok, lens clear everything ok. The price is in the area of $1,100.
what people think? Should I go for it? I am interested in a working camera and I was told that this one can perform as expected.
thanks,

If the price seems right to you, it is what you want and you get some time to test that it does indeed work properly, go for it. Life is too short to ask here. Most are so infected with GAS that nearly will say go for it.!!!

If the lens is really a F 1.5 ( and not the common 1.4 ), 50mm Nikkor, than it has very good value - in the area of $ 1500-2200 ! If its the 1.4, more like $ 200

Dan, it is the 1.4 (my typo) so the lens is $200. Would the combo still worth $1,100?
thanks,

What I want to make sure is that I don't end up paying more that it is worth, that's it! I no few things about the prices, just from what I got from ebay or google and sites like this one or so. So any advice would be good.
I don't intend to re-sell it to make money, it is for me
thanks,meste

Make S U R E that it IS working as advertized. If you cannot, make S U R E that you can get a return/refund or a refund for a CLA before you pay!!!
People have quite a broad variety of the meaning of "all works fine" type of descriptions.
My last "all works fine as it should" Rolleiflex has stuck slow speeds, a half-broken back and a finder that misses a spring so it is only half secured.
Sure, it works at 1/500 to 1/60 shutter speeds if you keep everything together with your hand.

$1,100 sounds like a reasonable price if both the camera and lens are in good working order and good cosmetic shape. Personally, I'd want to check the RF focus patch before purchasing a vintage S3, as some I've seen have been quite faded and almost useless, whereas others have been quite ok.

both - Nikon would be something I was dreaming a long time ago, recently I started to learn more about the RF, with the purchase of a wonderful Bessa R3M which I currently use on a daily basis
