So i'm now in Denver and I spot a Lab to get my B&W stuff developed from my New York and Chicago tour.
Put 5 rolls in and only two came out.
1 roll was destroyed by there machine, one of the gears came loose and ripped the film in to bits

2 rolls came out blank, nothing had been exposed on them. This wasn't there fault, but i'm worried my M6 is playing up, any test I can do? what could be the problem?

I'm gutted as I did two whole days of photography in Chicago. Also saw a bunch of Leica users, was any of them you I wonder?

The other two films came out ok, some ok shots on there. They are on my blog if you want to have a look.

Other news, i'm crossing the states now, on Friday i'll be in San Fran so if anyone fancy a bit of street shooting get in contact.

Sam

Sure, let's meet for a pint somewhere and then shoot. Or vice-a-versa. Where will you be? How long in SF?

I'm in town from Friday 19th to Tuesday the 23rd so any day is good for me. Is there a good lab in San Fran

Anyone have a clue why two rolls came out blank? Maybe i didn't load them correctly. Its worrying me a tad.

I haven't used a pro lab in San Fran in years (I worked in several), so I'm not going to suggest one (they are probably gone anyway), but I'm ALWAYS up for a pint and/or shooting. I was planning on shooting in the city this weekend anyway.

As far as blank rolls, there's the dumb lens cap question which I won't ask. As far as testing, I would get a couple of rolls of the cheapest drugstore color film I could find and shoot it off on the street corner or out the hotel window. You can have that processed-only for a couple of bucks a roll at a one-hour photo. You can evaluate the negs at least.

:)

BTW, it must have been fun in Denver last night, huh? A little city-wide partying going on?

I will be in SF on Sunday October 21 to see the Joseph Cornell show at SF MOMA. Probably be there by noon. Can we meet there or someplace nearby?

Cheers for all the help guys, how about this sunday then? (21st) Beer and shooting? I've never been to San Fran before so let me know where is a good place to meet.

Lab in San Frans

I'm truely sorry to hear about your mishaps regarding the film... :(

welcome to san francisco!!!

regarding the labs, i know that there's newlab down in san frans itself. (near market street from what i know)

I use them for my colour stuff, but as for bw, i think they are a bit pricey and not the best. (in my opinion)

for b/w stuff, i normally send them to looking glass photo down in Berkeley. Its a small shop that deals with ALL kinds of film (with the usual digital sales) from techpan to the usual tri-x and stuff. They're 15 mins walk from ashby's bart (subway).

I send my bw there, and they send it to a lab in berkeley called Alab. You could send your stuff there directly for the same price. www.lookingglassphoto.com.

give looking glass a call, they're terribly nice and in my opinion, much better than calumet photo downtown in terms of service and definitely knowledge.

I would love to meet up, but am in Tokyo working my butt off on business stuff. :(

nonetheless, do enjoy sf, and feel free to pm me if you have any other qns.

If we meet up Friday I'll be happy to soup some B&W for you over the weekend and give it back to you on Monday. I have D-76 and Xtol all mixed and ready and also have Rodinal and Diafine.

Where in SF will you be?

Hey Guys,
Sorry i've only got back to you. I didn't have the internet after taking a 36 hour train ride from Denver to San Fran. What a ride.

If anyone is around tomorrow and wants a beer or do some shooting i'm free all day.

Hi folks

Hi folks

I'm out of town for the weekend, and pretty busy Mon., but Tue. pm may have time to meet up in SF or peninsula.

Rich - would you be interested in doing some extra b&w rolls? I don't even have b&w film yet, but could get whatever film you use to make it easy to add an extra spool or so to your tank?

I have my print negatives done at costco (3mb scans) or San Bruno 1hr Longs (1.5mb scans).

Good work from both of them, occasional negative scratches, but low prices and quick turnaround.

Ted, so you're not satisfied with Ray's processing. Good to know. Since it was free I was going to send him some rolls, but maybe I'll hold off for now.:)

hahahahahahaha!!!!!

That's a good one, Mike!

Yeah, Ray's Photo Lab seems uncommitted, and I think they tweak my images in photoshop before scanning ... ;)

Oh, now you want SCANNING too?!! :) You're a big boy. You can do your own processing. You don't process, you don't scan, and you don't use photoshop. I suggest you and Randy get together and work together to overcome your fear of b&w processing. Spend some of that camera and lens budget on some processing and scanning equipment. :D

Now, if Mike needs me to process a roll to do some comparative processing for him, I can oblige. No problem helping out those who help themselves. :)
