Yea I emailed him last week to try to order another one to keep for the future and he said he was all out. I guess I will be looking for a R3A instead and just buy an adapter.

Ffordes in Scotland generally have a good supply of used ones for about £150. For european buyers this is quite good value as there would be no import tax.

Kim, there is import tax ... Serbia is in Europe, but it isn't in EU .

All hail the R, one of the only cameras I have sold which I have had mild regrets about the parting.

Wow, I thought they would last forever!
I'm glad I got mine when I did.

Stupid question after a quick review of the comparison chart on the HBT's website...what's the magic, compared to the other Bessas that followed the R?

I guess the magic was the packaging and the price. Think of what a like new Leica M, Contax or Konica RF sold for 3 or 4 years ago. I picked up my Bessa R with a Skopar for $300 three years ago from a RFF member.
My theory is the R is a LTM, prices dropped when the R2 series were released and early buyers moved up to M mounts. The R's affordability was and is remarkable.

Yeah, you guys had me going there for a minute...was going to buy one, then realized that it's LTM, while almost all my lenses are M!!!

Whew that was a close one soooo happy that I got mine for 166 € !
Yes it should be the price but do not fear as in Austria there should be some R's available for 360€ in used condition!

why are you guys all excited about the Bessa r. The canon P is a much better camera, solidly built and at a similar price. Bessa r is built like my toddler's toy camera, mostly plastic and easy to break. For $300 you can also get a used hassy, a camera that is built to last 100 years.

Yeah, but the Canon P is more than 45 years old. Some people prefer a new camera with warranty.
Also, the P has no lightmeter.
I also read the gossip that the Bessa R is plasticky, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got mine!
And if you could tell me where to get a usable hassy (incl. lens and film back - not necessarily incl. a prism, waist level finder will do), I would be most interested in buying it for the price you mentioned!
Best regards,
Uwe

Just tell me where.....
Just tell me where.....
in Europe I could get a Hasselblad for 300 $ and I'd be there,,,,yeah right it is plasticky and sadly it's not black plastic (in tha case of my R) like the DSLR's have it, bur colored and showing it's milky white flesh once the black coat has flocked away.
But Canon P's are old and tend to be in various states of being used, whereas most of us got Bessas either new or in a like new state. An the light meter for me as an FM user was very appealing. Yes I tried to find a Canon P but in EU prices are way higher. But I must confess I sometimes phantasized covering my Bessa in Aluminium plates....

I've used the heck out of my black Bessa R with grip and it shows no signs of fading. Doesn't feel any more plasticky that my DSLR's or a Minolta Maxxum and is wonderfully lighter.
I don't mind the LTM as there's a huge amount of very fine lenses out there.
